Andy is covered in cat wax!!!! ahahahahahahaha! Let us elaborate.... Sophie was befriended by a lovely furry cat at our hostel here in San Pedro, it was clambering about her shoulders and generally having a nice time, Andy decided he wanted some feline attention, so he sauntered over and said cat amicably jumped onto his knee, it was a lovely scene..... the cat was happily purring away and was obviously comfortable enough to share with Andy the contents of its ears, which was approximately a gallon of gloopy ear wax!!! yum! hahahahahahahaHA!!!!
Ok, anyway, aside from that highly amusing incident, yes, we are Chile! Country number 4!
So, we have survived the slat flats! Nine hours a day in a jeep is not fun for anyone, but the scenary was spectacular, and we got some fab photos.? We saw lots of cacti, flamingos, foxes, vicunas, volcanoes, lagoons and the salt flats themselves were amazing! It was bloody freezing tho - the coldest we've been so far! Also, we didn't wash for a few days and the roads were, well there weren't any roads, just rocky tracks! The company provided great entertainment tho - our cook, Nancy, was mostly pissed! She made ok food thankfully tho! Our driver, we think he was called Roberto, was akin to an oap in a rover on a sunday, he drove sooo slowly and refused to put the jeep in 4 wheel drive on the grounds that it used to much petrol! Give him his dues tho, he was really nice, and we were about the only jeep not to have a flat tyre or other mechanical problems. Our fellow travellers, well they were a hoot... a couple of Belgians who passionatly hated Isralis to Nazi proprotions, and a couple from down south, who were just too nice and sickly sweet - it nearly killed us!!! It may well have killed them... we left them at the Chilean border, where they started off for Uyuni again - a mere 8hrs away - and when we left them they were already in a heated debate cos the english girl wanted to sit by a window and was going to cry if she couldn't, whilst the Belgians stoutly refused to move from their seats - all fun and games!
Anyhow, we are in Chile, and my, how different it is! Like bein in a different continent, never mind a different country! We are back in what feels like the western world, and unfortunately, english prices - we were just getting used to paying 5 quid for a 3 course meal for 2 n'all! Its very nice, just very different; doesn't quite feel authentique with the abscence of traditionally dressed locals and the unpaved roads - feels very modern. But hey, we shall see how it goes.
Before we leave you, we have to mention Minute Man Pizza in Uyuni - we ate there twice (the only decent place there) and Andrew Robert Wells Green consumed a FAMILY SIZED PIZZA ON BOTH OCCASIONS!!!! Who ate all the pies?!? The restaurant owner (a Bostonian) was astounded!
Will probably spend a few days here, room availability pending - we seem to have picked a very busy weekend! Adios!
