Our first activity of the day was jet boating on the Shotover River. We were on the 8:30am boat, which was lucky despite the early hour as the 9am boat was cancelled due to the rain. Yes once again it was raining when we were out on a jet boat and at full speed the rain was like hail. Despite this it was great fun and really exhilarating. The boats are incredibly quick and really agile. We were centimeters away from the canyon walls at times (that's literally centimeters away, not figuratively!) and the 360 degree spins were cool! After this unusual but highly effective wake up call, we had planned to go on the Luge, but we didn't think it would be as fun or even running in the wet. So after a bit of shopping we went to Caddyshack City indoor mini golf. This was great fun as each hole it themed and there are over 500 models across the 18 holes. It was fantastic putting the balls under moving portcullises, seeing the balls ride the ski-lift or careering down the roller-coaster in the amusement park. At the end of the course a lolly drops out of the candy factory, and we got an extra one each as the couple in front of us hadn't taken theirs
After the mini-golf (which Andrea won), we drove to Te Anau. We were hoping to book sea kayaking in Milford Sound, but of the two companies we tried, one was fully booked for the next day. However a quick visit to the local i-Site had us booked on the following afternoon's trip from Milford Sound (much to Andy's delight as he then got to drive to Milford Sound, which he really wanted to do to the bemusement of Andrea). The i-Site also booked us into one of the local camp sites. It was raining all evening with low cloud so we couldn't see the lake view promised in the camp site's name...
