Hello people!!! Yes we know...we are slacking off. We've done alot since last post....
In Chiang Mai we stocked up on all our tourist activities...we went to see Muay Thai boxing, did a cooking class for a day and went out to the elephant conservation santuary. We also ravaged the night bazar down town for some bargins and some of those pressies we promised to bring home. We also had a couple of lay about days just wandering around, eating, drinking, reading, getting awesome $5.50 hr long massages, $8 facials ...the usual stuff for us hard working travelers hehe.
From Chaing Mai we took the over night sleeper train down to Ayutthaya which is the old capital of Thailand. Ayutthaya was ok... we hired a moto for the day and went around to check out all the old temples and ruins around the city (Andrew got us lost somewhere out in the ghetto which was a bit scary hehe). We only spent one night there as we felt there wasnt much to do... and i was scared of all the mangy dogs!
So we took a bus after staying one night to Kanchanaburi- where the famous River Kwai and the war history is. It was a really interesting place... we checked out the Tiger Temple and got some cool pics with the big kitty kats and we did a one day tour and went out a beaut waterfall, the hot spings, Hellfire pass war museum (really interesting!!), death railway and the river Kwai bridge. All was pretty interesting...
From Kanchanaburi we waited around for the late minibus and arrived on Friday night in Bangkok. So we are now in Bangkok- staying not too far from the Ko San Road party central. We spent yesterday flat out in the recovery position after a big night the night before drinking Samsung Whisky buckets ($6 ea). Today we went to one of the many HUGE shopping malls to grab some bargins. To our dissapointment we spent alot of time actually LOOKING for the bargins as everything was pretty $$ compared to everywhere else. We have been having a great time wandering around the streets checking out the cheap clothes and the awesome food stalls- 20Baht ($0.66AU) for a big cup of corn with butter and salt, mango and sticky rice $1AU, chicken drumsticks $1.10, pad thai $1....yummo!! I also fell in to the toursit feat of getting my hair braided (will post some pics) but Andrew chickened out on his dreads...(sook). Other than that not much... we are just kicking back and enjoying our limited time!! Its going sooo quick!!
We have booked the overnight bus for tomorrow night down south to Krabi and then we will head out most probably to Ko Lanta to soak up some rays and salt. Anyway... will keep you guys posted. Hope all is well back home. Miss you all- love lots Amy & Andrew. x xxxxx
