Hey all,
Hope all is well back in the land of kangaroos and dingo's eating babies! We are currently in Siem Reap, the second largest city in Cambodia. It feels a bit like a large country town and much of the landscape looks similar to inner Oz. However, i don't think i would be keen to go galloping or riding through the fields as the amount of evidence for the extistence of land mines is abudant! the conditions of living are pretty bad for most here but the people are friendly and smilng (which is a complete surprise for a nation that has been in somekind of war, repression or torture for the last centuary!!).
There is also incredible beauty in the Khmer kingdom. We went and checked out the temples of ANGKOR yesterday for about 12 hours! And we didn't even cover a 1/4 of whats here!! the detail and design in the structures and the eary shadows were awing. It's hard to beleive a country which was tis advanced in the 1100's is now a worn torn amost 3rd world nation.
The food here is great also. We have been trying (every chance we get) to eat the country dish 'Amok'. Dad you would love it ... comparable or better than Massaman! everything from wares to food is a little bit more expensive in Cambodia and venders try a little bit less inconspicuously to try and rip you off. But still i really like it here and the short stay we have had only has left me wanting to return later.
We fly out tomorrow morning early, and plan to either stay in saigon for one night or go directly north to a mountain town calles Da Lat. Amy is looking forward to the temperature change in the mountains, as it is hot and sticky (really hot and sticky) here and it is compounded by the fact that most of the roads (bar the main few) are dirt or are covered in dust.
Anyway, we made it through Cambodia (almost) and have all limbs and possesions...
Miss you all, till next message
Andrew & Amy
