We spent our New Years Eve at Bradleys Head in the Sydney Harbour with an amazing view of the Sydney Harbour, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. We had to keep pinching ourselves to realise where we actually were!
It was a scorching hot day and we had to get to Bradleys Head early to ensure we had a good spot to see all the fireworks. We were with Jo and Neil (who Andrew worked with at Herefordshire Council) and we also met up with Rich and Dan (the two lads from Sheffield who we have kept bumping into on our trip!)
We got to Bradley's Head by Ferry about 1pm and it was already really busy. All afternoon there was formation flyovers, signwriting in the sky and canons firing from Fort Denison. We pretty much spent the afternoon sat out sunbathing, drinking, eating, chatting - all in all a great day!
At 9pm there was the family fireworks display which was amazing and really got everyone excited with anticipation for the midnight display! There were several fireworks barges and from our vantage point we could see them all right up along the harbour, all going off in time. There was then the Harbour of Light Parade where 50 vessels sailed all around the harbour lit up with illuminated emblems from this years theme which was 'the time of our lives'.
Finally midnight came and the finale, a truly spectacular fireworks display from the fireworks barges and the Harbour Bridge itself. The display was so colourful and huge it felt like they were coming right over the top of you. It was fantastic and gave us goosebumps just watching it. The atmosphere was amazing, everyone was having a great time and saw in the New Year in good spirits!
To get back home was a bit of a mission, 3 hours and 3 buses, a train and lots of walking finally saw us collapse in our tents at about 4am!
We hope everyone had a great New Years Eve however you celebrated it and wish everyone a fantastic 2008!
Lots of Love
Sarah and Andrew xxx
