After catching a night bus from Sucre we arrived in Oruro at 5am, 2 hours earlier than anticipated!! It was really cold (-5oC) and absolutely deserted - it is funny how first impressions make you feel about a place!! After searching for over an hour and a half we managed to find a hostel and catch up on the rest of our beauty sleep.
On awaking we went to a hot spring resort, that apparently does wonders for skin, aches and pains etc. The water is magnesium rich, we were all in need of a nice hot bath too!! There was a massive swimming pool that used this hot water - it must have been about 25oC it was lovely, but swimming was even more difficult than usual at this temperature!!! We then had a private bathroom with a big deep bath that filled directly from the spring, this water was about 35oC, lovely and warm, mmm! Feeling very clean, relaxed and invigorated with skin as soft as a babys bottom we headed back to Oruro.
At night we had an Italian not major news, but about half-way through our dinner a procession started outside (presumably a warm up for Bolivia's independance day - 6th August), with bands, masks, twirly stick girls and even a stuffed lion!! This really brought the crowds out and we couldn't even get out of the door! Finally about 2 hours later we managed to escape, nothing in Bolivia seems to work normally!!!
Off to La Paz tomorrow for a quick night stop-over, before heading to Rurrenbaque to do a Pampas tour, hopefull we shall see loads of wildlife including pink river dolphins, cainmen, monkeys etc. There is also a chance to go piranah fishing - i will let you know who does the best!!
We will be back in touch on our return to La Paz in a week or so, until then take care. Loads of love Andrew and Sarah xxx
