Hello from Argentina!
Friday we crossed over the border from Brazil to Argentina for the first time adding our second country to our list from our Round the World Adventures. (Although technically we have also been to Paraguay when we went to the Itaipu Dam!!)
Unfortunately we forgot to get off the bus at the Brazillian border to get our passports stamped to show our exit from Brazil, this could cause a problem if we ever want to go to Brazil again in the future. So once we had realised we had to go back to the border control point, exit Argentina then exit Brazil and then re-enter Argentina! So we now have three stamps for Argentina all dated the same day! Very silly of us but it is quite funny to laugh about it now and all it cost us was a few pesos for the bus journeys and some red faces!
However it worked out ok because when we reached the bus station (for the third time that day) we saw Dan and Rich, two lads from Sheffield who were on our flight from Heathrow and who we bumped into on Ilha Grande (the world really is a small place!) so we all got an apartment together which included a kitchen, so Andrew could showcase his culinary talents! It was actually really satisfying to eat some home cooked food!
The first thing we have noticed about Argentina is how CHEAP it is! 6 pesos equal 1 pound and a litre of beer costs 3 pesos = 50p!!! and a bottle of wine costs 6 pesos = 1 pound!!! We are in heaven!!
On Friday afternoon we went to the point in Puerto Iguazu where you look over where the convergence of the Parana River and the Iguazu River and can see the countries of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay all at once, which was pretty cool, we sat there for a while chilling out and feeling the hot sun on us, complete bliss!
Yesterday we went to the Parque Nacional Iguazu to see the Iguazu Falls on the Argentine side, to get up close and personal with the waterfalls! We went on a guided tour which was called the Great Adventure! This included a 8kn 4x4 vehicle ride through the Yacaratia trial, with a guide who explained about the animals, birds and plants that were found in the national park. It appears that we have been really lucky with the weather as a few weeks ago they had really heavy frosts and cold weather which made some of the plants shed their leaves, but now due to a heatwave and the moisture from the waterfalls the plants have regrown and are blossoming again!
We then got kitted up in our waterproofs and went on a speedboat for 6km up the Iguazu River towards the waterfalls, 2km of which were rapids, it was great fun and the driver took a liking to us and was really throwing the speedboat from side to side! When we reached the waterfalls we literally had a shower underneath them, getting completely drenched through and going back a second time just to make sure there were not any dry bits remaining! It was very cold, a bit scary but so so so much fun!
Luckily the sun was shining so we dried off pretty quickly whilst we walked around the rest of the waterfalls, including going right to the Garganta del Diablo - The Devils Throat, which was the biggest of the falls and was truly spectacular!
Today we are resting our aching feet before we catch a sleeper bus to Buenos Aires (18 hours away!)
Thanks for all the messages we love reading them and they really make us smile - keep them coming!
Love to all S&A xxx
