For the past 2 nights we have been in Cordoba with new found friends Julio, a wicked Argentine from El Calafate in Patagonia and Emanuel, a Brazilian from Sao Paulo. Argentina continues to exceed expectations for both me and Sarah, the people are unbelievably friendly, we feel pretty safe and it is excellent value for money!
Cordoba is Argentinas second biggest city after Bs As. A historic Argentinian University town steeped in history, it also houses many churches, with a vast Catholic following. The city has a really young feel to it, there are so many students and young professionals milling about - it is quite busy but doesn?t have the hectic feel that BsAs or Rio had.
The Archetecture within the city is also nice, there are many old colonial buildings as well as neo-gothic and baroque churches. This morning, after walking around the city for 2 days we took an open-topped red bus city tour aka London!! They showed us a house that was built to rotate in order to follow the sun throughout the day, this was a nice idea until the tower blocks came and sheltered it from the sun anyway!!! (the local council moved the house to a new location next to a museum last year, so its purpose is still fulfilled)
Last night we had a roof-top bbq and a salsa lesson. The salsa was great fun but having no rythm and two left feet made me a laughing stock, especially during the turns!! The Argentinians said i was a whole forest, they normally refer to someone who can?t dance as a log - very wooden!!! Sarah as you can expect was excellent, but I was told it is the taking part that counts!!
The bbq was fantastic sausage, ribs, pork, steak and a whole chicken between 7 of us. More meat than you could shake a stick at made all that much better by the excellent wine we used to wash it down. Particuarly the bottle we found called Hereford! We followed this by lots of ice cream bought a local ice-cream parlour - delicious.
We are both getting addicted to something called dulce de leche, dad you would love it. It is like the toffe stuff you get in the bottom of banoffee pie - they have it in everything cakes, ice-creams, sweets, even on its own!! It will soon rot my teeth though!
We head off to Mendoza later this evening - begining to gain a bit of height. Mendoza is at the foot of the Andes very close to the tallest Mountain in South America - Aconcagua 6962m. I don?t think we will have chance to climb it though!!
Love to all, keep in touch A&S xxxx
