After 3 nights in Bangkok we were ready to leave the city so we headed to Kanchanaburi. We were staying in rooms right on the river here and it was so relaxing. By the time we'd got there, checked in and had something to eat we didn't really have time for sightseeing so we headed back to the river to sunbathe for a bit.
Barry decided it would be a good idea to have an afternoon drink so the 2 of them headed to the shops whilst Kellie and I sat in the sun. There's a weird restriction in Thailand about the sale of alcohol between certain times in the day so they had to get a carry out from a bar, a pi**ed up expat was cheering them along saying "you're getting smashed up by the river". Unfortunately " let's get smashed up" became the phrase of the holiday with somebody using it far more than others (Casson)! 1 drink turned into 2 then 3 then we lost count and I think there was a jager train at some point!
The next day we rented mopeds and headed to Erawan waterfall, it was a nice drive out but the waterfall wasn't at its best as it hadn't rained enough. At the top we attempted to get in the water only to be attacked by savage fish! Well I thought they were savage, everyone else thought they just tickled when they nibbled you! Either way I decided to sit out of reach!
On the way back down Casson decided he was going on the waterslide (a waterfall over a really slippy stone), this is where we had a slight domestic as I was supposed to take a picture but he didn't check I was ready so I missed it. His argument was I'd had ages to get ready as it took him a while to get there, mine was he should have checked as I'd been getting the go pro ready so Barry could film it. To be fair him sliding down was over in a 2nd and wouldn't have been a good pic anyway, what would have been funnier would have been to film him coming out of the water as he was panicking as the fish were huge and were blocking his exit.
We were almost back into town but we had to cross a really busy main road on the mopeds, we all lined up and just sat there thinking how the hell does this work. Next thing a couple of locals pulled up alongside us, as soon as they pulled out we followed them with cries of "go, go, go" and lots of whooping once we were across only to realise we'd actually gone the wrong way!
That evening we went to see Bridge over the river kwai but it was really busy so we got up for sunrise the next day and we had it all to ourselves.
General points
1) this getting "smashed up" had to stop
2) I hadn't told Casson or Kellie that there'd been some reviews on trip advisor about snakes being in the area near our rooms (they both have massive snake phobia's) but we were lucky enough not to spot any!
