We arrived in Bangkok tired after the flight, we only stayed here 2 nights before moving onto Phi Phi.
To get to Phi Phi, we had about a 12 hour overnight bus journey then we were dropped off at another bus station at about 5am, we waited an hour and half then got on another bus for a couple of hours, got dropped off again then got a mini bus to the ferry then had 2 hours on a ferry. To say we were tired when we got here would be an understatement!
We found a hotel then just crashed out. We didn't really have many plans for Phi Phi as we were just killing time till Kellie and Barry came to see us. We decided to do a snorkelling trip so booked it for the following day. On the way to the boat it started raining and there were black clouds in the sky. Once on the boat it started thunder and lightening and it was torrential rain. We knew we were going snorkelling and would be in the water but we didn't expect to be soaking wet through before we even got in the water. It was freezing as well!
The trip was a bit of a wet fart in the end as the weather was wet and grey all day and everywhere we stopped was full of rubbish. Even the beach were "the beach" was filmed was grim. We'd both been to Phi Phi before and neither of us liked it the second time around.
We decided to stay another few nights though as we thought there would be more chance of finding somewhere playing the North End play off final here rather than on another island.
One afternoon I'd headed back to the room before Casson as he was paying the bill, when he got back I was sat downstairs waiting for him and hadn't gone in the room. There was a huge cockroach blocking my entrance on the door. I HATE cockroaches, they make my skin crawl so I may have had a slight hissy fit. Casson was less than sympathetic as he thought I was being dramatic and ended up saying that we might as well go home now if this is what I'm going to be like. Really? I thought, This is how he reacts to my fear of cockroaches? I'll show him ..... so I told him that I'd read that there were loads of snakes in Phi Phi and Thailand in general and he should expect to see them. I had read this but I'd kept it from him as he's petrified of them. The next thing he said he wanted to go home! We both didn't sleep properly for days, I was scared I'd wake up with a cockroach on me and Casson thought he'd wake up with a snake on him!
The day (night for us) of the football was finally here, we'd found a bar that said they "should" be playing it so after a bucket of sangsom (rum) and a bucket of strawberry daiquiri we headed there. Unfortunately it was quite late due to the time difference and they were closing. I honestly thought Casson was either going to cry or have a meltdown so I convinced him to try a different bar.
We got to the next bar and they couldn't find it on any of their channels so at this point Casson was almost suicidal and decides he needs another bucket of rum. There was another bar round the corner we could try but he refused as by this point (5 minutes to kick off) he thought it was hopeless. I left him searching through the channels and went round to the other bar, they said they thought they'd be able to play it but couldn't guarantee it until kick off. I told Casson this but he wouldn't budge, I had to go back round and see it on the TV with my own eyes then come back and tell him it was definitely on before he would move bars! THEN he left me holding his bucket of rum whilst he sat at the bar and ordered a beer, I had to smuggle it in!
At the end of the football to say he was happy is an understatement, I literally had to drag him out of the bar as they were waiting to lock up. We went back to the hotel then he realised he needed food or he would be rough in the morning so off I went to get him a slice of pizza. I must point out that me going out for food or anything in general is a rare occasion but I thought it would be better than him being hanging and moaning all the next day. Unfortunately when I got back he was fast asleep/passed out and he wouldn't wake up. I may have been slightly annoyed at this point and I didn't like the food I'd bought for myself so I very quietly (so he wouldn't wake up) started smuggling slices of his pizza out of the carrier bag it was in, I saved him 1 slice for the morning :-)
The next day was a write off for him, I was absolutely fine!
After recovering from his hangover we decided the next stop would be Ko Lanta.
General points
1) Phi Phi is Thailand's equivalent to Benidorm
2) No more buckets of alcohol for Larry
