Andre and The Prawn's Adventure
We made our way to the Brazilian side of the falls first thing in the morning armed with a picnic, loads of water and sun cream as it was hot hot hot. When you get there a bus takes you to the start of the viewing point in the park, I was reading some posters whilst on there and there were pictures of animals that looked a little bit like raccoons but the poster was warning you not to feed them as they can attack and also showed a picture of a bloody hand, I pointed this out to Casson who immediately started panicking about the picnic as it was in the bag he was carrying.
As we got to the first viewing point Casson put the bag on the floor to get the camera out and about 4 of the raccoons came out of nowhere so he picked it up and ran down the ramp to where we thought we were safe, he put the bag on the floor again and one of the little rascals ran through his legs so he sh*t himself, he had hold of the camera bag and they all started jumping up so he dropped it and ran away, honestly we'd been in the park for about 10 minutes and were already making a show of ourselves. Other people were shooing them away but we were running from them and letting them take our bags!
From this point onwards Casson was paranoid that one of them was going to jump on his back to try and get the food out of it, I mocked him the whole way round for being a scardy cat (but obviously didn't offer to carry the bag)
The falls themselves were absolutely amazing, on the Brazilian side you're quite far away from them most of the way round so you get an amazing panoramic view. When you get to the end of the viewing platforms you're at devils throat which is where you get up close and personal, the falls are thundering down and you get absolutely soaked. Just before we left we treated ourselves to an ice lolly in the snack bar, I picked them up and as soon as I did the bloody raccoons started stalking me, they were running towards me so I went to put the lolly's down and Casson is shouting at me (from the other side of the snack bar, as far away from the raccoons as he could get) "nooooooo don't put them down, they'll take them". So I had to run away from them, don't forget when they came for him he dropped everything and ran and yet I had to keep hold of the food! Honestly, I don't know how we manage to make a scene everywhere we go!
After the falls we went into a bird sanctuary, it was a place that took in injured birds, birds that had been stolen etc and they also had a breeding programme after which they rehabilitated some of the birds back into the wild. It was full of Tucan's and Macaws and loads of other species but the best part of it for me was the tortoises. I'm a bit blind without my glasses and at first I wasn't entirely sure what I was looking at but I soon realised it was full on tortoise humping. I couldn't stop taking pictures as it looked so funny, with every bump and grind he would stretch his little neck out and pull a funny face!
The next day we crossed the border to go to the Argentinian side of the falls which were equally impressive, on this side you're much closer to the falls and the sheer scale of them hits you. We took a boat ride into the waterfall and got absolutely soaked but it was totally worth it. This was a great couple of days
General Points 1) Neither of us like being up close and personal with raccoon like creatures
2) Contrary to what Casson will tell you, I'm not addicted to tortoise porn
3) Yet again we have a bus story, there was a dirty old man coughing and sneezing sat behind me and we realised eventually that the other weird noise he was making was him spitting on the floor!
