We're leaving San Francisco today and everyone has agreed it is a great place. We covered as much as we could in two full days with 3 boys.
Day One
Mike, Jack and Ben went to Alcatraz. They had a great time and got some good photos. They took a packed lunch and on the way home got some groceries. (Finding a grocery store that has fresh fruit, bread etc hasn't been easy.) Mike bribed the boys with $5 each to walk back to the Hotel. Up and over the hills from Fishermans Wharf to Union Square.
George and I went for a ride on the Cable Car, after walking up and down a few hills. We had lunch at the hotel so George could rest, then we went and sat in Union Square. I people watched (fascinating) and George played on the hand rails.
The boys had a swim in the hotel pool and we were all ready to crash at 8.00pm.
Day Two
We packed our lunch and walked down to Fishermans Wharf. We had booked ourselves on the Cable Car tour of San Francisco. It was so cold, similar to Wellington when we left, only no wind or rain. The tour was brilliant. We sat on the outside of the car wrapped in blankets. The boys had a great time, it was fun watching them. Driving up and over the hills was exciting and we were all impressed with Golden Gate Bridge. (Didn't think I would be.) The tour also took us through the suburbs where we saw the 'Mrs Doubtfire' house and also the house, or rather castle, that Danielle Steele owns. (US$80 mill)
In the afternoon we walked through Chinatown. The boys got some Kung Fu slippers and more key rings. George got a wooden Crocodile (??)
For dinner we went to Pier 39 and then stopped at the Chocolate shop for dessert. We caught a cab back to our hotel which was like being in a car chase straight out of 'The Streets of San Francisco' He wasn't meant to take 5 passengers so he drove like a mad man. Changing lanes, stopping quickly and very closely to other cars. I swear the car flew at the top of those hills. I couldn't get out of the cab fast enough. Mike thought it was hilarious.
Day Three
We're driving to San Diego today. Managed to navigate our way out of San Francisco to the Highway.
Mike asked the boys what they thought of America so far. Ben said 'it's the best counrty I've ever been to.'

Stewart Woah! You've left NZ already! Time flies. Glad you are enjoying San Francisco. I hope that George's crocodile behaves itself! X
Jamie Your experience sounds very similar to ours! It is good you are all enjoying yourselves. We were also unexpectedly impressed with the Golden Gate bridge. It is weird to see it in the flesh (so to speak) after many years seeing it on TV only.
