Anna & Kerry's South America Travels
Hey guys,
After putting the entry in yesterday, we went back into the Plaza to get some dinner. Ended up going to a restaurant that a lady had tried to get us in for lunch. Had no idea what was on the menu - it was some kind of set menu, so we went for the one that cost s/ 8. Turned out we had ordered one meal and shared it, as it had a starter (potatos in sauce) and main (beef, rice and chips). Also tried Pisco Sours, very nice, tastes tropically! While we were eating a musician came over and started playing panpipes, guitar and singing. He showed us he CD, and we decided that we would buy one as a reminder of the kinds of music we will hear while travelling!
After dinner we walked back to the main square, and sat on the steps to people watch. A few minutes later a group of Peruvian girls came and sat by us. They looked at us curiously, smiled and then one of them spoke to us, asking where we were from. We told them we were from England, and started chatting. Soon there was a whole crowd of children around us. Then one of them asked us to sing! They sang an English version of Frere Jacque to us, then we sang a couple of nursery rhymes to them! Next thing we knew, we were in the middle of the square doing the hokey kokey with them, which they really enjoyed! After this they wanted others, so we did the farmer wants a wife, oranges and lemons, in and out the dusty bluebells, ring a ring a roses, the pizza hut kentucky fried chicken song and who knows what else, some of the time we were even making up the words and actions as we couldnt quite remember them!! Didnt really matter tho, as they were having so much fun they didnt care what we were doing or singing! More and more kids were joining in, and we started to get spectators around the square. Next we did head shoulders knees and toes in spanish (with some help from the kids as to what the body parts are called!) Once we had completely exhausted all of the songs we could think of, we sat down on the steps and started doing clapping songs and round and round the garden, which they found funny when we tickled them! Then they started playing with our hair, and wanting us to do their hair, so we got our hair brush out which they were fascinated with! We then decided to take some photos, which they got really excited about and wanted to keep posing for. They loved looking at photos of themselves on the digital camera, and ran over to have a look as soon as the photo had been taken. After about two hours (by this time it was nearing 10 pm and very dark) the children waved adios and left. We were by now feeling very well travelled, and thought that this had been the best experience of the trip so far!
