Anna & Kerry's South America Travels
Hey everyone (writing this a week late so excuse the gaps of info and poor descritions)
Arrived in Corumba Sunday morning, after an awful bus journey the 2 days before! Crossing the Bolivian - Brazilian border was a bit strange. We got a taxi from Quijarro in Bolivia to the immigration at the border. Here we got an exit stamp from an official, had to pay B10 for it which I dont think is official, and walked out of Bolivia. We then walked straight into Brazil, looked around the building for the immigration office but there didnt appear to be anyone around ans cars were just driving right across without stopping!! Were approached by 2 men whoi at first we thought we Brazilian officials. They asked us where we were from and how we had got to the border. turned out they were reporters from a National Brazilian newspaper who were doing an article about the probelms with the border with Bolivia. They asked us a few more questions, and then got us to walk back over the border with our backpacks while the photograopher took about 100 photos!! They said the article shoudl be out in the next week or so, so who knows we might be on the front page of a Brazilian paper!! Claim to Fame!
Anyways next we were approached by two more Brazilians, and they asked us if we were planning to go to the Pantanal. We said yes, and they told us about their tour. it sounded like a good company and good value, so we decided to go along with it. Got a taxi to the hostel, and were greeted by a very sweet old Greek man whoi was the owner. He told us hes gonna support England in the world cup and not Brazil!!! Then booked the tour, and went into the town for lunch. Had an amazing all you can eat buffet with really good chocolate pudding!! Then did some washing (exciting seeing as our bathroom had absolutely no water so we had to keep sneaking into the other bathroom!!!) Then had an all you can eat pizza buffet for tea. Tried chocolate pizza which was weird, as it had cheese on it still! Anyways thats about it for our first day in Brazil!
