Amy's Adventures
Kia Ora! New Zealand is by far my favourite country so far, I love everything about this country! Despite there being $2 to the English pound (much better than the ozzie dollar) I've spent an absolute fortune. There's just so many activities and things to do/see it's exhausting. I'm booked onto the Kiwi bus, which is basically a big green party bus with a pretty bad reputation. Your out every night whether you like it or not and the normal pick up time is 7am so we are all averaging on about 4 hours sleep....fun times!
We swam with 300 wild dolphins in Kaikoura, that was mental. It was like standing in the middle of a motorway with hundreds of cars flying at you, occasionally i caught one of their eye and they would stop and play with you, circling around and jumping out of the water doing flips - so much fun! We climbed the Franz Josef glacier and hiked in the Abel Tasman National Park. There was an earthquake aftershock just as we left Christchurch which was 4 on the Richter scale, pretty awesome! The whole building shook and the windows were rattling (we thought a car had crashed into the hostel). Driving around we've seen loads of spots where Lord of the Rings was filmed, everywhere you look it's just so beautiful. Even the sky is amazing, the south island is known as the "Land of the long white cloud" - very fitting. We went to an amazing cinema where you sit on sofas and they stop the film half way through to bring you out freshly made cookies and cups of tea.
Yesterday I did a 15000ft skydive over Lake Taupo, probably the best thing I've done so far. Your freefalling for a minute before they open up the shoot but it feels like seconds, I loved it! We were all on a natural high for the rest of the day, I had probably the most ungraceful landing ever, I completely forgot what I was meant to do so stuck my legs out and we went flying. The instructor got caught up and I was dragged about 20ft before we both went head first into the grass, very funny! We dug for gold in Arrowtown's river (and failed miserably) and ate numerous of the famous 'Fergburgers' in Queenstown (the best burger known to mankind, I lost count how many I had at 3am on the way back to the hostel).
Tomorrow I am going black water rafting in caves to see glowworms then off to Rotorua to check out the natural hot springs. 4 weeks is no way long enough to see all of NZ, I'm definitely coming back to do it properly in a camper. The past month has probably been the best of my life!
