Hey guys!!
So today is Sunday which is my day off so I thought I could actually update you on what's been going on here (but I'm too lazy to do a video right now, so that will come later!).
On Monday 12th January I embarked on this great adventure. After a quick stop at Shire Oak (of course) Matt and I headed to Heathrow. After hours of waiting and spraying all the perfume in the duty free it was flight time! A zillion hours and a coach ride later we arrived in Whistler! It was about 8:00am English time when we arrived - soooo sleepy!
In my house there are 7 of us. There are 3 guys that live here that started their course before Christmas, and the rest of us started on the 12th. There's me and 2 Emma's in our room, English Emma (who skis) and Australlian Emma (who boards - but we'll forgive her) who all started at the same time -and they're lovely :)
The next day we had a welcome day. We were collected in the morning to be taken to our information meeting. There I learnt about all the possible ways that you can die on a mountain and seriously questioned my life choices. So once i was aware of bears, tree wells, the horror movie Frozen and not falling asleep in the snow we went on a town tour (it's actually a pretty big town considering it's a ski town, bigger than Cannock!). We also got our season passes that day and I went and bought all my ski gear.
My skis are Volkls, pink at the tips, blue at the bottoms and a good all mountain ski (that means that they're good in lots of different conditions which is what you need here!). My boots are the most comfortable ski boots I've ever worn - it makes such a difference with a good lining in your boots! I bought a white helmet which is also soo comfy and warm (and I decided the rest of my outfit was already dark enough so white was necessary). So after that I was all kitted out and just had to wait for my skis to have the bindings attached until the next day. So I went with another english girl that had just bought all her kit to lunc at this place where everything is $4.95 - and super yum! Then that evening we had welcome drinks and got to meet lots of people on the course too before skiing on Thursday.
The next day, Wednesday, we didn't have training but UK Emma and I went up the mountain to explore ourselves (and hopefully not get lost and end up in our own version of Frozen). It was such a beautiful day, I even got to try out my new sunglasses. The snow was great and it was great to finally get on the snow after soo much waiting (and we didn't get lost, so it was okay!).
On the Thursday we finally started our training course., we all skiied together and then put ourselves into groups based on what we felt comfortable skiiing that day. I ended up in a group where it was me and 5 boys - so there's a lot of trying to ski really really fast! On the first day we just got back used to skiing and some ideas of what we'd need to work on.
There's lots more to tell but it's Australia day and we have to go out now (yes, have to!) So I will fill you in more soon!
Love to you all!!
