Amy's Travels 2006
HI GUYS!!!! Adam and Dad... you must be going a bit stir crazy I feel... thanks for the messages though and yes this morning I climbed out a big bath full of self righteous glory and used the towel of gloat (or goat?) who knows and then thought... hmm i'll update my journal so the plebulites at home can twist further in their biterness at not being on this great continent. Only joking now.
So fraser island eh...? Biggest sand island in the world hey? It was awesome....!!!!!
First of all you get put in a group of 10 people, most you don't know and you get given a 4x4 (I know most people know of my loathe of the beastly vehicle however it was highly necesary for this purpose) and we literally spent 3 days driving around the biggest sand dune on earth! I drove the 4x4 up and down these crazy sand roads and it was so bumpy and a little hairy at times as these things are top heavy and known to topple over on a regular basis!!
We bathed in the most beautiful lakes (not in the sea as it is full of tiger sharks! you are not allowed in it at any cost!) and camped on the beach. We were given strict instructions on how to deal with dingo's if you did come across one. They are dog-like creatures that roam the dunes and indeed we had an encounter. One decided to sniff around our camp site and we all hid in the 4x4. One of the irish guys started shouting 'f*** off you red b******' at it... which actually scared it away a bit and he consequently woke all the campers up with that... nice way to start the day huh? It was very funny!
I think the highlight of the trip was heading to indian head on the northerly end of the beach and seeing in 45 minutes 1 whale, loads of jumping dolphins, turtles, rays and eagles in the sea (not the eagles!) It is a cliff so you can see down into the surrounding water and honestly everyone was stunned with the wildlife you could see. It was amazing. Didn't see any sharks though... gutted!
Just got off a 12 hour bus journey from HErvery bay to Airlie Beach. We are going on a 3 day sail trip through the Whitsunday islands in a few days... the adventure and fun NEVER stops!! Feeling very tired from camping and running away from dingo's though so might just go get some well earned sleep!
Sorry about lack of photos but it is so hard to get them on here as no internet cafe lets you put cd's in their drives... b*****s! Lizzie very jealous about capoeira you will have to teach me some stylin moves but at least I have a nice brown tan! MUHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH although its raining today :(
