Tuesday
We have to be ready to go by 8:15 for our rafting trip. We had pre purchased ours with a deal with the travel agent.
We have breakfast at the hostel and have to walk a small way as again the roads are closed for Easter celebrations. We have two ppl approach us with their paintings. One is George Washington and one is Leonardo (from last night). We put them off again. We cross through a few plaza's and catch a van with our tour group. We have to drive for about 2hours. We stop for petrol and bread for lunch. Bread large, round and about 5-6cm high made with cinnamon instead of sugar.
We spot also at a shop for refreshments and toilets if needed.
We travel along the valley following the river. There are beautiful mountains on either side.
We pull off the road to a grassy track along side the river. The bank is quite steep. We dress up with togs, wet suits, water shoes, shorts and jacket. We receive instruction on rowing and safety and off we go. The rapids are grade 2-4. We have an awesome time and about halfway we stop for jumping off a rock. The river is very swift and strong. By the time we reach the end we are cold and shaking. We get changed and have lunch prepared by one of the tour guides wives: rice, bread, avocado or chicken, tomato and soft drink.
While we eat two guides hitch a ride back as one has forgotten something. It's virtually impossible to get rafting equipment in Peru so it's important to get it back. When they return with the lost goods we go back to cusco and arrive about 5pm. We shower and relax and later go out for dinner then back for bed.
