The heat here is amazing! I got up in the night for a cool shower and to wet my towel to use as a wet blanket. With the crazy fan only working on full it's dry within a few hours.
Breakfast is full of lovely fruit. A nice change! We decide to hook up with an Australian girl and head to the cenotes (sinkholes) in a nearby town. It's a bit of a mission to get there.
The 2nd class bus won't be leaving till well over an hour. We decide to catch a colectivo. It's the same price and leaves 45 min before the bus! There are so many speed bumps here and pretty much everyone slows to cross them. Maybe they are there because it's the only road rule everyone obeys! Keeps the speed down. We get off and start walking down the road it's over 3 km. a few motor taxis offer us rides, but the price is too high. Eventually one keeps following us we settle for m$10 each. Unbeknown to us we have to take the horse drawn carriage to the cenotes. We just start walking and the follow us saying it is not permitted. We don't know if it's true or not, but we catch the 'train'. The first cenote is not worth seeing. It's dark and shallow. The 2nd is cool! We climb deep down a ladder to a blue crystal pool. It's very refreshing. The 3rd and final pool is huge, but beautiful. The calcium in the water keeps it aqua blue and stops things growing in it. The roof is amazing - like something out of a movie. Blue and purple tinges on stalactites etc. it looks like it belongs under the sea. We catch another motor taxi back and wait for the van. We supermarket shop for dinner. Ends in being less than $2aud!!
Noodles and fresh tomato sauce.
