Tuesday 2nd June
We start the day with great plans to bike to the botanical gardens. We have breakfast and head to the bike shop to wait for it open. Unfortunately they want to see our actual passports and not just a photocopy. We decided there is not enough time to go get them and return. We decide to catch a taxi there. It's a little slow due to traffic and costs R20. The park is lovely with mature trees, wide paths, fountains and cascades. It feels luxurious. We see toucans and a monkey steal rubbish from a bin. It starts to shower and we decide to head back. Check out is 12pm. The taxi trip back is long and slow but we make it in time. Then back down the hill to await our taxi. We decided to risk a request up the hill and gave the tour office address. Is also very close to a hotel where taxis are stopping. We sit on our bags waiting and a bellboy from the hotel offers his help and we inform we are waiting for taxi and we have ticket. The taxi arrives 20min early and off we go. The taxi driver is older and frankly scary! He often drifts lanes and not always paying attention in close traffic. I'm glad to reach the airport safely. When we read the sign we discover we are in the wrong terminal and set out on an airport trek. We see where to check in then find a quiet place. We get expensive airport food then kill a few hours. Check in is straight forward and I write post cards. We see a couple from our city tour group! Against the odds they are sitting right behind us and offer their phone number if we need help. The plane is very empty.
