hahah funny photo aye lol. They are everywhere here in the northern territory area Aboriginals. You would think, going by the art work and history being everywhere in museums that Australians were proud of them, when in fact, they are a nuisance out here. There are gangs of the on the streets hanging about, they all look very similar and slightly neanderthal (spelling?!) I sometimes don't feel safe walking past them at night. They are forever getting arrested by the police and travellers are told to keep their distance!
SO!...this blog will no doubt be muchy and depressing, but hey ho!
Hello everyone, i am now on my own in Cairns, I leave for perth tomorrow night, which I cannot wait for now, i am really excited and could do with the challenge of a new job to take my mind off things.
So where did we get up to.... Tuesday 31st March - I posted my first package home! it had a pair of crocs for my mum, a photo of me holding a koala for my mum and nan, and a birthday card for my dad and one of my dogs ronnie! jess was left out, so i will be on the hunt for something cool and weird to send her! We booked all the rest of our trips today, stayed by the lagoon, got some lunch, then fell asleep! We went to the cinema this evening and saw a julia roberts and clive owen film which was ok, but so long winded I fell asleep and missed the end! We packed our day packs for the trip to cape tribulation/daintree rainforest. These 2 russian girls, who we named svetlana lol got up extremely early, waking everyone up packing their bags up. They took hours, Ricky says I'm bad! but they were ridiculous....it turns out they were going on the same trip as us! lol. Weds 1st April - April fools!! :-) We put our large backpacks into storage and got the jungle tours bus at 7.40am, the driver was amusing, he was called Fraser. We stopped at a wildlife place, which was the best one by far! we got to walk through a kangaroo enclosure and they all come up to you, it was brilliant. The enclosure was also home to loads of ducks and a few geese. The ducks loved Riky and followed him everywhere, it was very amusing, and he loves it when I say DDDDDDUCK (mum and nan you will get that! its a childhood thing of mine) We could have spent hours in there, and we nearly missed the bus, and would have incurred another vegimite fine for that!! errrrr. We stopped for lunch, and were then dared to pick a green ant from a tree and lick it's bum. Which, eventually we did! it was weird it tasted like lemon and lime sherbert, my dad would have loved it! We eventually got to our hostel (pk's jungle village) it was a cool place, very quiet and chilled. the food was really expensive and not really worth it. we went to bed early after playing some pool. Tues 2nd - we woke up at 10, after being woken up by the svetlankas again! they kept getting up in the middle of the night packing their bags, dissapearing. They were odd, the would sleep in the early evening, then have showers when we were in bed, then pack their bags and go in the middle of the night, then re appear the next day! i think they were possibly prostitutes!! lol. We spent the whole day on the beach, it was my dream beach, lovely clear water, nice soft sand, with rainforest and hills behind you, it was beautiful. You start to become very complacent with beaches along the east coast because there is one in every town, but this for me was brilliant, and one of the most romantic days I'd had ever. The sea was boiling and flat like a bath, we were not meant to get in the water as it's stinger season, but we risked it and we are still alive! we laid in the water for ages chatting and admiring the gorgeous views, it was lovely and I didn't want the day to end. We had a snooze in the afternoon, then dinner. Fri 3rd - We checked out in the morning, but wer'nt due to be picked up until 4,30pm so we had the whole day to spend there again before heading back to Cairns. We both can't beleive we have 3 more days left together before going our separate ways for work. We both booked our flights, Ricky flies to Sydney on 7th April, and I fly on 10th, there were no flights available on 7th to perth! and it cost me $359 which aint cheap, because it's easter i think. We got back to Cairns and booked into a hostel called Carravella's. I was now getting very emotional at the thought of splitting up, and was booing into my pillow most nights lol. It's starting to feel like saying bye to my mum at the airport in kuala lumpur all over again, my eyes well up every time I think about it. Sat 4th - Ricky got a $29 hair cut today, but it looks good! I booked an appointment with the same girl for the afternoon Rivky leaves to keep me busy! it's going to be so expensive, but I need to have it sorted, it's in bad condition and keeps falling out. We went to the lagoon today and bumped into a girl we met back at the start of our trip at surf camp. I left the racecourse job man in perth a voicemail, we went for dinner tonight, our most expensive meal so far.......drumroll please - $113!! but it was our 2nd to last goodbye meal, and it was really tasty lol. excuses excuses i know. The au pair woman, who gave the job to someone else has been in contact, she wants me for the job again, and the racecourse job fell through - I don't know what to do about jobs, I hate making decisions, and all I have on my mind is saying bye at the moment, i can't concentrate. Sunday 5th - we got to the fleet reef terminal for 7.30, today is the day of our helicopter ride over the great barrier reef! i got up early and put some nice eye make up on, thinking "oh we'll have some nice photos in the helicopter" we were not told much about the trip. Luckily I persuaded Ricky to put his swimming shorts on for the day just incase. It turned out, we were going out by boat (a packed out boat i might add) having 2 stop offs for snorkelling or diving, then we'd get the helicopter ride home to Cairns!! so I'm thinking no! I have make up on! lol. But it was ok, as I had a mask on, my face didn't get wet. Snorkelling was good fun, i was a bit nervous tho, so wore a life jacket, as it was a bit choppy, and we hired out really attractive stinger suits! there were jellyfish everywhere and i was screaming at first everytime one touched my face or my lips. It was a lovely day, and I just got more upset because it was officially our last day together. :-( We went back to the room, got showered and went for a chinese meal. Mon 6th - the big day! I was crying all night and morning lol - what a wimp, I don't know what's got into me with this one!! We checked out of our room and sat outside the hostel waiting for Ricky's taxi. I was a complete state when we said bye, i had to ring my Mum because I felt very alone. Eventually I could check into my dorm room. It was like going back to the beginning all over again. probably even more so for ricky when he arrives, because he will be back in Sydney where it all began months ago! Today was a very hard day, and I kind of got through it spending obscene amounts of money for a backpacker!! lol I got my hair done, it cost me $220!! that was with a damage treatment and some expensive redken shampoo and conditioner. After that I found the shopping centre! BIG mistake. But I did well, I only bought a bit of make up and a new top, oh and also a $80 grey pully suitcase. I have officially had enough of my backpack! it's ripped and I hate it, so I am now the owner of a spanking new pully, which I love!! it;s so much better. I met dave in the evening and some others for a free meal at the woolshed, but I left early, i was not really in the mood for socialising, bless dave he knew I was upset and was trying to keep me out, because sitting in on my own would not make me feel any better really. I vowed to come out of my skin a bit more tomorrow, I just needed to be on my own. I walked down by the sea and rang ricky because he said it was cold and he was feeling down. It made me happy to talk to him, but made me miss him even more! He made me laugh telling me about checking in at wake up hostel in sydney, he ran downstairs and accused the nice girl behind the desk of stealing his driving licence! and they even watched the cctv footage, and it clearly showed ricky placing it in a different area in his wallet - pillock!! lol he felt awful as the girl was really nice. hahaha it did make me laugh though. I listened to my ipod that night until i fell asleep. Tues 7th - Happy birthday to Dad and Ronnie boy!! I got up at 8am, spoke to my mum, I slept well, all things considered! I packed my pully suitcase and my backpack now sits there empty and sad looking with it's ripped, I'd love to burn the b*stard thing! I am now officially a flashpacker, not a backpacker, am also thinking about buying some hair straighteners lol!! I met dave today and helped him with his CV and then went to the lagoon for the rest of the day. I headed back to my room and got ready to go out I decided I would go to the cinema on my own, as I have never done it before, and Ricky says he does it all the time back home. I couldnt decide between 2 films, so i went to both!! one after the other! I saw confessions of a shopaholic, which was funny, then I went to see twilight, which was excellent, but really reminded me of ricky. A cinema is not the best place to go if your missing someone, with couples everywhere! BUT as usual, something has to happen to me doesn't it??!! I left the cinema, followed everyone out the exit doors, which led onto the top open level of a multi storey car park. long story short I was stuck there was no exits! and they locked the cinema doors up! a group of teens with cars approached me asking if I couldnt find my car. 2 of them kindly offered to drive me home as it was on the way. (ricky and dave both said i should not have got in the car, but they were nice, they were with girls too and i had no other option! lol) so i got back to the hostel at midnight. I had the worst nights sleep ever tonight, didnt drop off until 4am. I didnt wake up till 11am, but it was pouring down so didnt feel too much like i was wasting the day. I spoke to ricky over webcam and we both said it's very difficult being apart, so who knows what will happen. 3 months is a long time and its so so hard!! we both wanted to crawl into the webcam! weds 8th - weather is bad at the moment, me and dave are at a loss of what to do! we walked round the shopping mall, had some food. I went to the woolshed to meet them for free dinner, and spoke to mum and jess over webcam, it was great to see them. Then I had to walk 15 mins back to the hostel in heavy heavy rain, luckily I had my raincoat, but I ended up walking shoeless and I was drenched!! the puddles went past my ankles, but i actually had fun walking back running through the deep puddles with the sea next to me, it was quite nice in a weird way. I dried off and read my book for a while, and had a great nights sleep. thurs 9th - dave moved into my hostel today, we did some washing, as we both had no clean pants! everytime we sat by the pool it tipped it down! so hence why i am now on the internet! there is nothing else to do! SO!! here we are! I fly to perth tomorrow evening. So it is a fresh start again, which in a way I am looking forward to. I am staying at a hostel called the witches hat backpackers which is in northbridge. On the 11th i am checking out and might meet up with phil for a few hours, to show off my pully suitcase! lol I am ten getting the train to a place called Midland for 3pm where a lady called Eley is picking me up, along with her 22 month old daughter Ella, who I may be an au pair for, depending on how it goes! I will stay with them for a few nights at their farm, then if I want the job i can start on Tuesday. Then Eley has to go to Margaret river area for work, which is one of AUssie's biggest wine growing areas, so i will go with them (so I might get some numbers for fruit picking while I'm there!) Then I will be with them for 3 months or more if all goes well. I also have a lady who wants me to do a weeks trial racing racehorses, which is better pay and I also get accomodation and food, like the au pair job, but the hours are part time. So I really don't know what to pick, I'll just see how this family are, because i would really like to keep occupied, and live with a family, as I am missing my own, and to have my own room and my own space would be great! it seems pretty varied, if I get bored in the country I can drive into central perth or another with Ella and still do some sort of travelling. SO I will see how it goes, and let you all know what happens!! Speak to you all soon, from sunny western australia! xxxxxxx lots of love Amy xxxxxxxxxxx- comments
