Wow!!! A week of helping Spainairds learn English... What an amazing experience! Some barely spoke a word of English on day one and some others probably could have taught me a few things, it was a varied group. The Menorcan doctor was so friendly and he gave me his Orange ray ban knock offs on the last say because I told him they were the coolest glasses I'd ever seen! The Canadian Anglos kept me laughing and were two of my favorite even despite our age differences! The Brits gave me an extended vocabulary and new perspective on the English language. And of course the 18 Spanish participants were a trip! In ages ranging from 22 to over 65 we had a very diverse group.
It was interesting to hear about Federicos grandfathers farm and the bees he still keeps. 10 hives in all and apparently bees are quite friendly! And he told me the bees are not harmed at all and the honey comb he collects once a year actually is beneficial to the bees :)
Me Minnesota is a park police officer and has traveled all over the world doing disaster relief and shared some of his experiences with us. Spainish miltary officer and Colita(!) is moving with is family of 5 to new York to teach cadets at west point and it was very interesting to hear his theories on what American life will be like. One very sweet Spainard shared her life with me and taught us how to make authentic home made Paella!
Every day different groups did a skit, my skit was a few scenes from Friends... I played Phoeobe (very appropriate!). the master or ceremonies put on an entertainment hour each night. Poochie Woochie and the Freaky Cheeky bird was my favorite sketch... Explaining this would take too long :)
One of the best group activities was a revised version of musical chairs. You keep one less chair than people in a circle and one person stands in the middle. That person says something like everyone wearing blue underwear and those people stand and race for another open chair. The one left makes another statement and so on. I seemed to end up in the middle quite a bit. what a fun game!
All in all I would recommend doing a vaughntown program if you are ever planning a trip to Spain!

Enrique So now the spaniards´point of view... even though sometimes it torn taugh (incredibly my english level seemed to decrease as the days went on, instead of improving), in the end it was an amazing experience, mostly for the people. Thank you so much, "anglos"!!!!. PD. Amy, not a word about the food?, jeje
Mom I'm looking forward to hearing the details when I see you in person!
