So, we've made it to the island famous for it's legendary parties and it hasn't disappointed. We want to go north before the Full Moon Party on the 10th July and had heard on our travels that it isn't actually all that great, so we came here with a view to seeing the beautiful beaches and waterfalls the north has to offer, but when we arrived Wednesday evening and saw the signs advertising the half moon party we decided we'd be stupid not to go. And it was amazing!!! Partying to techno in the middle of a jungle with tons of other backpackers all up for a good time, who could want more?? Needless to say, Thursday was spent sleeping by the pool, nursing our hangovers.
We have journeyed to the north of the island now though, to a small beach town called Had Yao and plan to go quad biking tomorrow to see all the island has to offer. The roads here aren't very good and apparently this is one of the best ways (other than walking, we're too lazy!) to see the waterfalls deep in the thick jungles here.
Last time we signed on, we were in Ao Nang, looking forward to staying in Rai Leh. It was an absolutely beautiful place and it was with heavy hearts that we left. Here we went on a snorkelling trip We had three dives around the islands off the coast of Rai Leh and then enjoyed a dinner of seafood green thai curry on a uninhabited island while we watched the sunset. On the way back we stopped to experience swimming in the sea at night. When disturbed, the plankton in the water glow, like glitter. Absolutely incredible!! We also went kayaking in Rai Leh, nearly gave up half way back to the beach, but made it in the end...lots of shouting was needed in order to apur ourselves on. Met some amazing people and finally found the friendly thai people Thailand is renowned for.
Off for some dinner now, it's a hard life!! x
