From the moment we touched down on Thai tarmac I knew we were in for a crazy ride; from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok airport to the crazy taxi drive to our hotel we had been in the country a matter of hours and it was already a blur.
Treating ourselves to a 5* hotel to recover from the long journey across the globe was an extremely wise decision. 15 hours of sleep later I was greatly appreciative of the queen size bed.
Day 1 in Bangkok and it was time to relax by the poolside, research the area and prepare for the night ahead.
Heading to Vertigo Moon Bar, a rooftop skyscraper bar overlooking Bangkok City by night, I felt a little queasy as I peered over the edge and ordered my cocktail. The view was breathtaking and definitely worth paying triple drinks prices.
Later we headed to Khao San Road, which is like no place I have ever been to before. A short dingy looking street crammed with bars selling cheap buckets of alcohol, street food for as little as 20p, and the most extraordinary people I've ever seen.
Meeting a friend from home, currently living in Thailand, gave us an evening of insight from local perspective.
At 4am it was time to head back to our hotel. Jumping into a tuk tuk after several more cocktails, the friendly driver even let us stop by a 7/11 so we could pick up a 4am food fix. Slightly different, but with striking similarity as a night on the town at home.
