Saturday 9th October
Unseasonably heavy rain last night but dry when we caught the greyhound. The Poo Heads are heading the Noosa Heads. After half hour drive through more cypress pine forests, the countryside changed to green rolling hills with heards of cows - all lying down (bad sign). It looked a bit like surrey or the dales. Reached Noosa Heads at 1pm and arrived at a quiet, for once, hostel - decorated with Buddhas and peace flags. Noosa is a busy tourist centre but this seems like a quiet haven. Will explore it if and when it stops raining.
We're dining out tonight cos it's still raining. Cpt Cook had a good job but lacked imagination. He sailed around the coast naming bays and islands - wide bay, black island, narrow cove and Whitsundays. I think as he got further north looking for a passage through Australia, he couldn't believe it was one island, he became more despondent - unsafe passage and cape tribulation.
We ate at an Italian restaurant called Frattellinis. I had scampi pizza, which was chilli and garlic prawns on pizza bread. Amie had spaghetti meat balls. Both were delicious.
Back to the hostel through the rain for bed.
Sunday 10th October
Light showers this morning but your intrepid adventurers decide to walk the coastal path to Noosa Heads main town. Local guides kept us to the path which led through the national park. The journey was about 7km with frequent stops to watch the surfers. Wandered around the town and had a bite to eat. Then the rain really started! We waited in a coffee bar for the shuttle bus back to the hostel. ABC news 24 is giving severe weather warnings for South East Queensland and as everything is bigger and better in Australia, we can only guess what this means. Trust us to pick the one year when they're having "unseasonal" weather!
After drying off its time for a beer and a milkshake for Amie. Don't want to have to carry the beer to Brisbane tomorrow!
(We're having to use the library photos that are on the off exploring site or our photos from previous places because we're having trouble uploading our photos - so the photo accompanying the blog won't necessarily be relevant!)
