AMELIA AND LORRAINE ON TOUR
Well Andy decided that our entry into Malawi would be an eventful one with by announcing a Dress Up day - the theme, something beginning with D! He's already constructed a 70s moustache from his Jesus beard, picked out some choice trousers and renamed himself Disco Dave! Luckily his sunglasses already look like they're from the 1970s so no need for new ones there!
The rest of us are sent out at a locals bring and buy at the side of the road (see the pictures in the album) - we certainly make their day. The boys do suprisingly well, in fact they enjoy it a little too much with Mark coming back with an illuminous yellow pair of cycling shorts and Howard a synthetic purple basktball outfit - seems to me they're reliving their childhood dreams! Lorraine picks up one of the worst dresses ever made but somehow takes a liking to it and puts it on straight away! Amelia wimps out and retreats back to the safety of the bus only to put her hair in buns, make legwarmers out of her flight socks and announce she's a dancer! Lorraine was far mor inventive and in afore mentioned awful dress went as a drama teacher, called Dolores - nice touch!
After our small detour we were soon flying off to our destination for 3 days, Kande Beach on the shores of Lake Malawi - the second largest in Africa. The drive was long, over 8 hours so feeling like caged birds by night we had transformed the bus into CLUB MAZUNGO! Although it's got a very select door policy once inside you are treated to local beer, hard house from Malta, Gary podium dancing and a modern light system comprising of flashing torches and Joes strobe effect camera flash! We were almost shut down by CSI Malawi but luckily the Club played on!
Once at Kande Beach we had 3 wonderful days out of the truck to lie on the beach (check), swim in the refreshing saltwater lake (check), tan up (check), drink in the bar (double check) and play volleyball (well we watched the boys, does that count!).
Malawi is a beautiful country, lush and green in comparison to the dryness of Kenya and Tanzania. The locals don't seem as friendly but Donald Duck, Flash Gordon and George Bush - the locals who did our laundry certainly kept us entertained!
Now we're off to Zambia - the Adventure Capital!
