After sleeping late again and enjoying breakfast with a view of the Acropolis, we took a walk around the square and a few of the streets nearby. Shops were open and busy with Saturday morning shoppers. Seemed to be mostly locals. We were back in the hotel, repacked and ready for our ride to the cruise ship terminal by 11:30. The driver arrived ten minutes before the scheduled time; we checked out of the hotel and were ready to go. We had another English-speaker as a driver which was nice although we had not paid the extra fee to guarantee an English-speaking driver. Nice that it turned out that way although this driver did not have very much to say. He answered our questions politely, but didn't offer any of his own comments.
We were at the port by 12:30 p.m., dropped the luggage for delivery to our suite on the Seabourn Sojourn, and got in line to check in. The check-in went quickly since they had a lot of people working. Phil’s carry-on bag was flagged during security. They thought they saw a pocket knife when looking at the x-ray, but, of course, didn’t find one when checking inside it. We then were on our way again and had a personal escort from the exit of the terminal, up the stairs on the gangway, to the elevator. We were directed to the Colonnade restaurant for lunch since the suites were not ready for the new occupants. Lots of people were already there. Although we had a hard time finding a place to sit, one of the staff members stepped up and pointed out two free seats. By the time we were finished eating, the suites were ready and we found our way mostly by ourselves. When I said out loud to Phil that I thought we were going aft when we should be going forward, one of the room attendants said, "Yes. Excuse me, I just heard you….." I think she wanted to be helpful without appearing to have eavesdropped. I had spoken in a normal voice so she was not eavesdropping at all.
Our stewardess is Katerina who stopped by to introduce herself and make sure we had everything we needed. One of the pre-cruise online documents we filled out was about our choices for the minibar. It was set up in a standard manner rather than with what we requested. She took notes and said she would bring what we wanted when she did the evening service. As it turned out, she didn’t change much, but I’ll ask her about that tomorrow.
For dinner, we ate in the main restaurant where we will probably go on most nights. The choices are the main dining room simply called The Restaurant, Restaurant 2 which is the specialty restaurant with a tasting menu by reservation, The Colonnade which is a buffet with both indoor and outdoor seating, and the Patio Grill with seating around the pool. With a maximum capacity of only 450 guests, this ship does not offer twenty-four hour buffets like the giant cruise ships do. They offer 24-hour room service though. We will not go hungry, but may have to do a little planning ahead.
