The drive was a long one from Albuquerque to Barstow, but we listened to a book on CD to help pass the time. It was 113 degrees at 8 p.m. on I-40 near Needles, California.

After finishing up putting away all the Christmas decorations, we flew from Albuquerque to LAX on United in the early afternoon. The flights to Vietnam start late at night, but since we have to change airlines, we wanted to get to Los Angeles in plenty of time to claim our bags and recheck them with EVA Air. We will leave here on a flight to Taipei at 11:40 p.m.
