Phill and Sue's 'allseven' Continents Adventure
A four hour mini bus ride brought us from Maputo in Mozambique to Swaziland. After some confusion with the accommodation we had arranged and subsequent 7km walk, we arrived at Mlilwane Game Reserve. The scenary in contrast to Mozambique is green and lush. The locals are neither of the above, though to be fair, are particularly friendly. We saw Hippo, Zebra, Ostreich and other game. Most of which were on the evening menu.
Our final long winded bus journey followed - Manzini to Jo'burg. 4 hours we were promised. 7 more like. We became anxious as darkness loomed and we closed in on the big bad city. The centre of Jo'burg is no place for whites at any time of day, let alone after dark. Despite our best efforts on the beach, we still stood out! We tried to persuade the driver to drop us at the airport, to no avail. We closed in on downtown dropping passengers in extremely dubious neighbourhoods, before being let out at a suburban shopping mall. As we unloaded our gear, we turned to the locals mini bus - again somewhat feaful. We were saved however, as a very nice lady pulled up in her car and called out to us 'get in'! We obliged and she sped us towards the airport. There is a strange commarardary between races here. Two way traffic we might add. We were so relieved to be at the sanctuary of the airport. We treated ourselves to a night at the Intercontinental. Next morning, our aircraft to Sao Paulo took flight and we reflected on the past 7 weeks. Nodding knowingly, we were pleased to finally be ÓUT OF AFRICA'!
