Iceland day 3 - I woke up and departed the hotel, on my own, at the holy jesus crack of dawn to head back to Gullfoss (ie. big waterfall). My eagerness paid off and there were only two other visitors when I arrived (as opposed to the several hundred the day before). The sun finally, gloriously came out for a brief moment and I was treated to a shimmering rainbow over the falls.
The only agenda for today was to drive from our hotel near Gullfoss waterfall to our hotel near Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon. A distance of 340 km. I told everyone we could stop whenever and wherever they wanted as long as we reached the hotel by supper time. This proved to be a mistake. Stop! Pull over!
Turn around! (note: this was said always on a two lane road with no shoulder, no place to turn around, and cars zipping by at 90 km/hr...someone shoot me now, please...or better yet, how about someone else drives)
But we made it. We saw ravishing waterfalls, green lush canyons, black sand beaches, and more darling pairs of twin lambs than you can shake a stick at. And we all survived.
