Ah! the frustrations, but hidden treasures of working in schools in Nicaragua. Our first week of work started as a five day week, became a 4 day week by Tuesday and then by Wednesday, half way through the day we were done. A mixed blessing. It meant only 2 and half days of school for the kids, but it also meant a 4 day weekend for us! So we were off.
Lindsay (Arizona), Karien (Holland) and I headed to the beaches outside of San Juan del Sur. We found a great little hostel right on the beach with hammocks and a view. It was beautiful. We spent the whole weekend tanning, boogie boarding and scarambling around on the rocks to get to the beaches north and south of us.
However, there is never really a trip here without some excitement and fortuantely Lindsay provided it for us on our last day. We learned that the quickest way to get 3 sleeping girls out of their beds at 7 am is to find a scorpion climbing on the bed railing a mere 6 inches from Lindsay´s face. It was exciting to say the least. And Stephon and Karien were intent on finding it again after we scared it back into it´s hiding spot. So unfortunately Stephon picked up the mattress for me to look under it to see if I could find it. I could never have found it. Instead of a normal mattress bottom, I found a dusty, dirt infested, probably molding, hollow mattress bottom that was home to a gazillion other nasty creatures. Good thing it was out last morning.
