Today was market day. After we had grabbed some breakfast, we hopped on the MTR to bring us up further into Kowloon so we could walk back to our hostel, market hopping on the way. I went to bed last night with a developing cold and mom's stomach is still a bit upset, so we took it easy. But we decided we'd much rather be shopping then sulking in our closet-room. And it's really nice and warm out again!
We started out at the bird market, flower market, and goldfish market, shopping a bit along the way. We then walked another 15 minutes down to the ladies market... Kowloon's main clothing market. It was pretty big and we spent quite a bit of time walking through it. We haven't really done much shopping this trip, so it was nice.
Once we had walked through, mom had to go back to the hostel for a rest because her stomach still bothered her. After a couple of hours, we headed back out to the temple street night market. We shopped a bit, but mom avoided the food, sticking to saltines and this Japanese stomach medicine we found at the intentional grocery store that looks and smells like deer poop. I finally found a ring from china, which I'm so stoked about, and it goes great with my ring from Greece. We made our way back to the waterfront as it was getting dark out. We walked around a mall near the cruise terminal for a bit, then headed to the promenade to get good seats for the lights show.
The symphony of lights actually has made it to the Guinness book of world records. It's one of the hugest, well coordinated lights show in the world. Basically the whole harbor lights up, an their are lasers and lights flashing to music for about 20 minutes. It was pretty spectacular. 2 more days! I can't believe it's almost over. Hong kong is definitely different from the other cities we have been to on this trip. So much more international, modest, and less cultured. It has it's own charms, but very different from the charms china had.
