Well, here it is, Friday is half over. I fly out out Monday morning. But before I go, Saturday is my mum's 60th birthday and we are having a party. So it would seem there will be no rest until I am on the plane.
I am a little excited that I will, for the first time in the longest time, be in the USA during their summer time - wahoo! So to add to the list of firsts in the longest time, it has been 8 years since I last bought togs (swimsuit to the non-Queenslanders and non-Aussies). It has been a very long time since I actually needed any! I discovered, whilst trying on the new swim attire that I seem to be a colour that can really only be described as a softly glowing white. Or as Verna described it, the underbelly of a fish! I didn't want to scare the local LA folk with my alien glow, so invested in a tan. I had a spray tan once, about 9 years ago. Not a real lot has changed, except the risk of coming out orange has greatly reduced.
So, as per the pic for this blog post, I have had a spray tan and I am now a little on the tan side. It is funny to look down at the hands typing on the keyboard and see brownish looking hands. Whoa! Whose hands are those?! Oh yeah, mine... And there is some strange shelia looking at me out of the mirror, but she seems freindly enough! I've been reassured that I am not overcooked and that it will also fade some over the next few days, and should be the perfect colour for my first day lazing on the beach. So! Bring it on, summer, togs and fake tan! Yeah, because I still love my sunscreen too much to allow me to be cooked by UV rays :)
And for any of you who are concerned about my flight options due to all the recent happennings, missing flights, crashed flights, etc - I am flying Qantas, direct flight, no war zones, but there is that massive expanse of the Pacific Ocean to cross. However Qantas is one of the most safe and reliable airlines in the world - so I am feeling quitely confident that I shall make it my desitination.
Three days, three days, three days......
