Well joined group arrived in Malaka lovely little place. Hotel has jaccuzi on the roof. Got a bit lost but came across the oldest chinese temple in southeast asia. Chatted with a guy who made wooden shoes. Went to villa Sentosa it is a family museum, they have lived in the same house for 9 generations. I was show around by one of the older sisters met her other sister and grandson. Had a long chat with a nice girl who owns a juice bar. The fruit juices and lassis are amazing, they are so fresh. Melaka had lots of history.
Then back to the very modern Kuala Lumpur went to the 42nd floor of the Petrona Twin Towers the tallest twin towers in the world. They are free to up but you have to queue I was ther at 7.30 in the morning and got up on the first lift of the day at 9.00. The views were splended. Hired a taxi to go to the Batu Caves they are huge with a huge gold Budha statue at the bottom. Lots of Hindu's go to worship there, there are lots of statues of Hindu gods in the caves. It is so hot and humid there are heavy rain falls in the afternoon with spectacular thunder and lightening. I went round the city at night it is all light up. There is a new king and queen being crowned this week. I tried durian and dragonfruit. I love getting fresh fruit from stalls on the street.
My favourite place so far has to be the Cameron Highlands named by James Cameron in the 1800s. The hills look like triangles covered in rainforrest. It took 5 hours to get there the bus wound its way up the side of the hairpin bends. It is not humid , the air feels cooler. They grow lots of fruit flowers and vegetables. There are lots of strawberry farms where you can pick your own , which I did. The climate stays the same all year round. Malaysia is very near the equator. On Friday I did a tour in the morning we went to the highest peak in the highlands the views were lovely looking at the clouds on the rainforest. I saw grey Maka monkeys on telegraph poles they move very funny. I went to a tea plantation owned by a Scottish family (the Russells). Then I went to a butterfly and insect farm and I held a scorpion, leaf insect and a stick insect. The afternoon I felt like Indiana Jones we went to a traditional Malayan village the roofs are tin and the sides of the houses are wood. The family all live together, they have 9 or 10 children. The men still hunt with poisioned blowpipes and guess what I got to blow the pipe but it did not hit the target, there was not any poison on my dart. Then we went into the jungle through bamboo and lots of streams and mud lead by a local guide. We climbed over tree trunks over rivers and little bamboo bridges. There were lots of insects and it was very hot and humid and the noises were a bit scarey sometimes. We saw the largest flower in the world it only grows in southeast asia and april and may are the months when it flowers it is rare to see it. We saw it it was supposed to smell of flesh but there was no smell to it. It was very big and red. I also saw cinamin trees, methol leaves and other plants used for medicine.
It took 6 hours on the bus to get to Penang but I miss the Cameron Highlands from what I have seen of Penang it is all pubs and tourists. There is a McCallum street and my hotel is on Argyll Street. Need to start thinking what I am going to do in Thailand, think I will enjoy the beaches as I have not been to one yet. Hopefully I won't have to much trouble with the internet but sometimes it does not work. I will try and add more photos soon
