Have left Thailand went across the Meokong River (10th largest in the world) on a wee boat took 5 minutes to the Laos border. Spent two days on a large longtail boat going down the Mekong, it was so humid it was lovely to have a breeze on the water. Lots of catfish in the river. Stopped of at a tiny village had electicity from a generator for 3 hours. Tried water bufallo it is a speciality dish, not my favourite. Love the coffee. Went to an Amok tribe village so interesting. The people are lovely, all the babies smile at me. I am very broody, could easily come home with a family. (only kidding). Saw some beautiful temples. Luang Prabang was a French colony lots of French style buildings and lots of pasteries. Money is confusing using laos kip, thai baht and some dollars. Only one beer made in Laos called Beerlao.
Went on a very humid trekKuang Sii Waterfalls, they were lovely the water was greenish blue and so cool. Saw pineapple and rubber plantations on the way. The hotel in Laung PraBang was lovely my laundry smelled so fresh not smelled it like that for ages. Now in Vang Vieng only stayed one night bit of a travellers hangout lots of bar food places where you can lie on beds watching movies or old friends shows. You can get "Happy Shakes or Pizzas" which would be why there are so many people lounging about.I will stick to my Lao coffee and an ice cream. Lots of caves and you can tube or kayak on the river. But I am having a day of catching up on my blog and diary instead. Starting to think about Australia won't be long till I get there, luckyI have 3 australians on my trip who can give me ideas. Jackie is a travel agent so we have been chatting about what to do. I am so lucky to have met her she has really good source of information on Australia. If anybody has got anyones addresses could you send them so I can write some postcards. I am about to finish Billy Conolloy's autobiography have enjoyed it. Funny reading about Scotland in Laos. Met the couple from Callender for a couple of minutes the other evening had a wee chat. Have not found a cash machine in Laos that takes Visa yet we are all hoping that there is one in the capital Vientiane. I am sure there will be one not got many more days in Laos, it is such a friendly nation. It is terrible to think what these people have been through in the past with the wars.
