After the incredibly long journey I arrived in Buenos Aires and now just had to wait fot Helen to arrive. The bad news was that her plane was delayed but the good news it meant I was able to get a beer!
By the time she arrived I had decided one beer was definitely enough as I extremely tired having only had about an hours sleep in the last 48 hours!
We got a taxi and headed to our airbnb - not very reassured when our driver said it was not a good neighbourhood! This did not in fact seem to be the cse as there was even a very high class restaurant in the next street!
Alex greeted us and got us settled in and to be honest we both just crashed.
Next day was a particularly early start but Alex gave us the tour of the place and we headed out to Recoleta. The only things Helen had said she wanted to do in Buenos Aires was see the Casa Rosada and some tango so it was up to me to try to squeeze BA into 2 1/2 days and try not to just do everything I did last time!
We strolled around Recoleta and then stopped for some lunch and went around the craft market there - Helen bought 90% of her gifts here - for herself as well as friends!
We walked from Recoleta to see the giant flower - very impressive even if it no longer opens and closes at sunrise/sunset. Next stop was a stroll around Palermo - more craft stalls (ignored this time), a cocktail in the sun and the metro back home.
Dinner was at a bistro very close to our airbnb recommended by Lina - delicious food of which the highlight was the basil icecream with the pudding - out of this world!
The next day we got up for more shopping! As it was Sunday the flea markey was on in Av. Defensa in San Telmo so after breakfast at Bar Federal we walked down the avenue browsing the stores. We caught a couple of free tango shows in Plaza Dorengo - an heavily pregnant woman was one of the dancers and was amazing as was the 80+ year old man who took a shine to me and stroked my face!
After walking down Defensa we posed outside Casa Rosada for the obligatory photos and strolled over to Puerto Madero to see the new side of the city before heading back home. We went back into San Telmo for food to a very busy restaurant where the couple next to us was completely ignored by the waiting staff for over an hour! They drooled as our food came out and finally said something - they apparently would have been served early but were to polite to complain! - and not even British.
Our last half day in BA we went to Cafe Tortoni for breakfast and strolled around the downtown area before heading back for our stuff and braving the bus to the airport.
Very smooth journey and before we knew it we were getting out of the airplane in Ushuaia and onto our airbnb to be greeted by Monica - who spoke no English! We headed out to dinner to a restuarant reccommended by her and other guests....
