So Rio carnival is over, what a week! We managed to cram as much in as possible- sightseeing, partying, beaches and very little sleeping! We saw the Christ the Redeemer statue which was amazing and huge (30m high) and there were great views over the city and Sugarloaf mountain. Another day we went up Sugarloaf mountain at sunset which was spectacular and the views were amazing, Rio is so beautiful especially when all of the lights of the city come on and twinkle ...

We have finally arrived in Rio after over 31 hours of travelling on coaches and buses! It is very hot, 35C and we haven't yet done much as we are too hot and tired! The past week has been amazing, very exciting and wild. We went to the Pantanal, Brazil's very biodiverse wetland area which is apparently the size of France and having driven across it I can believe that as we drove for hours and the scenery still remains green and unbroken by towns. We were happy to escape Porto Alegre and are now staying in a hostel outside of Foz do Iguacu, the nearest town to the Iguazu falls. The hostel is lovely despite being overrun by english tourists but we have a pool and hammocks and it is very green here, as is Brazil in general. We have now moved on from Uruguay and are now in Brzail! We had a lovely time staying with Rose´s friend, mostly going to the beach and drinking cocktails which was a bit of luxury in the middle of all our hostel stays!
