My next write up will come from my time in Alaska!! It took me a day in flights to get to Anchorage and I arrived there at 2am!! Very confusing as it was not really dark at this time. After arguments with the hostel, I finally got a room and tried to sleep for a couple of hours. I was sharing with two russian ladies for my first two nights and I went for a few walks around Anchorage and found Starbucks!! I was quite lonely though so it wasn't the greatest two days as I missed my Wifey No.2!! Roomie was annoying me, so he wasn't greatly missed!! The first day of the tour I changed room in the hostel and moved into a dorm room with an Australian girl called Amy. We went to an Irish pub that night and both of us were stunned by the lack of darkness around us. We even took a picture of a clock that showed it was 10pm and it had clear blue skies behind it!! The next morning we met the rest of the group. Our tour leader is called Ben and then the rest of the group consisted of two canadians Jen and Carey, another Australian Sharon and then two Belgians Peggy and Peter. We started our tour with a long drive to Denali National Park. We stopped alonmg the way as we got a rare sighting of Mt McKinley. We got to Denali and put our tents up for the first time and went to the Denali visitor centre. We also got our bus tickets to take us through the park the next day. We went on teh bus the next day that took 8 hours to get around and we saw bears, moose, dall sheep and caribou. The next day we went back into the park to see the sled dog demonstration and then after that went rafting, luckily I didn't get very wet as it was freezing!! We also went for a hike and got to see a beaver in the water which was very cool! We went over the road from the campground that night and went for dinner at a pizza restaurant. The next day we had to put all the tents down and head to Macarthy. We set up camp by a river which had no facilities but amazing views. The outhouse had to be seen to bve believed. The next day we went ice climbing whcih was expensive but so worth it. I got to do two climbs and had soooo much fun!! We went to the local pub that evening for dinner and open mic night. There were some very strange locals as one of them asked Peggy if she wanted to get f**ked up!! Very different approach to chatting up women!! The next day we went to Palmer and set up camp for one evening. I am getting very good at putting up tents and taking them down considering how much experience i had had before this trip!! The next day we went to the Palmer Parade and also the musk ox farm. The parade had a lot of good looking army guys hanging around!! We then drove back to Anchorage and decided to camp rather than stay in the hostel for the night. We went to Walmart and Chuck E Cheese as this was an experience that neither myself or amy had ever really had!! That noight we cooked hot dogs and Amy, Carey and Peter played frisbee before we began our first game of drinking Jenga. This was my frist drink since Vegas!!! And I managed to drink 5 bottles of Corona!! Will I ever learn??!! The next day a new person joined our group in the form of another Australian, Anna. We drove to Homer, via an Animal refuge where we saw moose, reindeer, an eagle, musk ox, buffalo, bears, caribou and owls. Any got to play in the snow at another stop which made her very happy!! We stayed on a beach in Homer, so it was very starnge to go from snow to a beach in one day!! Myself, Amy, Jen and Carey went sailing the next day, and since Amy is a sailor we got to hav a lot of fun whilst learning all about the sailing at the same time!! We had a seafood dinner that night and went to the local pub for a couple of drinks. The next day we moved on to Seward where we went to teh aquarium and camped by the bay. We found a coffee shop in the centre of town that had internet access and great hot chocolate!! We had pizza again for dinner and then went for a walk to the marina where we encountered a lot of rabbits!! We went for a boat ride the next day and hd lunch on board. We saw whales, porpoise, otters and seals. It was very cold and rainy though!!! The next day was our ferry ride through Prince William Sound. We got to see mopre whales and also some ice bergs!! We arrived in Valdez and played drinking Jenga again!! ben joined us this time. The next day we went kayaking whcih was amazing!! I was in a kayak with amy. We had luch on a beach and then went for a hike to a waterfall. We got back and had ice cream whilst sitting outside!! Who ever thought that would happen!!! We had dinner in a restaurant that night and had a final camp fire with marshmellows!! The next day we drove back to Anchorage to end the tour, we passed a couple of amazing waterfalls alomng the waya dn also saw another glacier!! Wen we got back we went out to a wine bar and then to rum runners and then played table football and uno at the hostel before i got a cab with jen and carey towards the airport as i am staying in a hotel airport that evening and am on the same flight as Amy going to Vancouver!!
