My flight from Johannesburg landed in Buenos Aires at half three. After (somehow) negotiating a taxi to the hostel (I really should have done some Spanish!) I headed out to explore the city for a while, wandering around and stopping for a coffee in one of the many, many coffee shops. After having dinner with some guys from Birmingham, I was pretty tired and jetlagged so headed to bed. The next morning I woke up pretty early (being on the wrong timezone still) and set off to the Recoletta district. This is one of the prettiest areas of the city, and I wandered around the cemetery for a while seeing the tombs of various famous Argentinians, inclduing Evita. Wandering around a little more I saw various sites, the Obelisc, the house from whose balcony Evita famously waved, Av. Florida etc. Then, I had my first (much needed) Spanish lesson, which was great although I wasn´t quite as fluent as I expected to be by the end of it, so a few more might be in order. That night I met some more people at the hostel, and we headed out to Club 69, an eccentric club run by a theatre company which has performers in fancy dress (mostly transvestites) up on stage all night and was great fun. The next morning we all woke up late, having been out till about 6 the night before (which is actually pretty early to go home, by Argentine standards- they don´t even eat till about 10.30) That evening, I caught the bus south to Puerto Madryn.
