Alice's Adventures in Ghana
About Alice
Coming from the UK - where water falls from the sky in depressing abundance - I never thought for a moment I'd be happy to see grey clouds and rain. But this evening in Jirapa the first proper, steady rain has fallen since November and I was so happy I danced in it!
The north of Ghana has been in the dry season for some months now. It is…
Hello!
This blog is all about my time in Ghana as a Community Advocacy Support Officer with VSO. I live in Jirapa in the Upper West region of Ghana. I work with a local organisation called ProNet to help deliver their education programme. This work involves supporting communities in gaining better education services and addressing barriers affecting the education of girls and disabled children. The reason for this blog is mostly to help me keep in contact with family and friends…

re: photo from 26 March 2013Sophie Nicolaysen Another great blog entry. We really do take water for granted. I cannot even imagine how the sun feels at that temperature any more....winter is powering on. Enjoy the rain now it's arrived. You'll be the strongest woman soon carrying all that water! Lots of Love xxxx
re: Rain, rain, rain!Sophie Nicolaysen Delemare's on tour! Love it x
re: ViviCam 6300sophie nicolaysen Oops. Accidentally rated your blog 3 stars....it's clearly 5 stars but I was actually just meant to be scrolling up the page!xxx
re: Completely UnemployableSophie Nicolaysen Very interesting and though provoking Alice. Just because that is the culture in one country doesn't mean it couldn't be built into business here. Some of the top business I hear about do well because they respect that people work to live not live to work and so people are more enthused to work hard when it is required but also have a good balance in their lives. Blue Sky thinking....the system does not define us, we can define the system :) Really enjoyed reading these. Apologies for VERY delayed parcel send out....thesis is a little overwhelming so not actually leaving the house much! Will send end of next week as having a weekend off . Miss you xxxxx
re: Completely Unemployableheather delemare Brilliant Alice! This makes us think about our culture & values. However, I am sure that you will be very employable when you return.
re: Completely UnemployableAlice That's a good idea, I'll post a couple of recipes here soon. I make a great bean stew! Fufu is pounded yam. The yam is boiled first and then pounded with a little water until it's an elastic ball that you eat with soup. Ghanains love it. I'm not a massive fan!
re: Let me entertain youfelicity Holland love your accounts of your free time Alice. You'll have to send us some of your recipes ... and what on earth is 'fufu'?
re: Let me entertain youheather delemare parcels are on the way!! hope you have a really good and interesting christmas. we are looking forward to hearing about it!! xxx
