Arrived in Beunos Aires very tired from our early morning boat from Colonia (5.30!) but managed to make it to a hostel and grab a couple fo hours sleep before heading out. Went to La Boca ('mouth' in Spanish) named for the mouth of the Parana river. This is the poorest barrios of Aires but is a large tourist attraction given the higly colourful buildings, the neighbourhood the Boca Juniors call home and the birthplace of Tango. It was pretty cool but a little bit touristy for my liking. I decided not to take my nice camera given the barrios reputation but wen I arrived I saw that i was the only one without a digital SLR!
Lots more partying that night so no chance to catch up on sleep. The clubs don't open until 2 in S america so its not uncommon to have a kip before going out - necessary when an early finish is at 6 in the morning. Unfortunatly the kip that we all had was not suficient and we only got as far as the door of the club before turning round and coming back, maybe tomorrow night we said.
The next day we visited the necropolis or cemetrary (after waking up at 3 in the afternoon) which was actually really rather good although a little errie. We then went on to a bookstore that was situated in an old opera house which was rather cool. At dinner we went for a Parrilla (grill/barbeque) for which Argentina is famous. It was the best I've had but i did get to eat intestines but couldn't quite managed the still semi-liquid blood sausage. More drinking followed with 3 Irish guys and the 3 american girls I'm currently hanging around with. International rules had to be established for the drinking games that preceded the bar we went to later.
Visited a crafts fair on Saturday and managed to buy the ubiquitous woven bracelets that all travellers seem to wear (if you can't beat them....). Went back to the house wear a friend of the American girls is staying which turned out to basically be a small mansion where we played card games. I fell asleep on the sofa and they went off to club and didnt get back till 8.30. They said they had a good time but im glad i didnt go cos i dont think my body could have taken it!
few more days in Beunos Aires probably and then either on to Peurto Madryn for whale watching (the orcas take the seals right off the beach) or to Mendoza for wine tasting.
