So Christchurch is awesome, a cool little city/town i could easily live in. We didnt really do much there but it was good to stay with Hannahs friends and eat some home cooked meals and get some rest before heading off into camper van related activities. We took a drive out to the mountains with our hosts and checked out all the views from above the city, they were crazy awesome, arguably better than oz due to the size of the lakes and just the sheer impressiveness of huge mountains. We pretty much just walked around the place and watched a couple of cool kiwi films there too, river queen and waimate conspiracy and got our van. That was it!
Our van is sweeeeeeeeeet! Its rented from this company called wicked campers, they have loads of vans all of which have a theme spray painted onto them for example bart simpson, a tiger van and generally comic book related designs, our van however is blatantly the BEST EVER!! Spray painted Futurama our van rocks, its real bright and genius! never fails to make peoples heads turn haha.
Next on our agenda was Dunedin to see one of Hnnahs mates. We pretty much again did nothing apart from walk about and go see the steepest street in the world and i took some pictures down on st claires beach, hopefully a couple should sell cos in my humble opinion they kick ass.
Next was a fantastic drive out to milford sound in fiordland. the drive was crazy fun, up and down mountainous roads, nice and twisty with absolutely amazing views, officially the best of the whole trip so far! many pictures taken out of the window whilst driving (very very slowly and carefully) haha, and through this giant tunnel. Milford sound itself was awesome too. we took a boat trip out on the lake surrounded by the giant mountains with massive waterfalls dropping into the lake each side. the weather was unfortunately wet, lotsa drizzle so photos were hard to get but hopefully i got a few decent ones. the place was kinda like the lake district back home on shed loadsa steroids!
Next was Queenstown, im definately coming back here for the ski season and would easily easily live there, first on the list for looking when i get back. First thing we did was head up the hill and check out the views. Queenstown is built next to a huge lake and surrounding by mountains, in particular the remarkables range. it is a fantastic place! this is where the aj hackett ledge bungy is , and unfortunatly i chickened out of the 47m jump, mainly as its on the side of the hill 400m above the city, really shoulda sone it though! im such a wuss. up the top of the gondola there is a luge track too, so naturally we had to ride that and it was hilarious. they luge are like little go karts and the track is really well set out with turns and dips etc perfect for racing, i could have spent several hours racing it but it was getting on in the day so we had to go down. at the bottom of the hill we stopped and played a game of mini golf in the worlds greatest indoor mini golf course ever. it was massive, all holes themed individually with huge models and multiple ways to go.
We met up with Hannahs mate Steve in queenstown too which was cool cos we hadnt seen him since sydney. we cooked him a camper van breakie the next day before he went off to skydive.
the best thing i did in queenstown tho was doing the shotover jetboat. this boat ride is crazy, it goes 80km along the river over the rapids and through narrow canyons and spins 360's every now and again, really really awesome fun, i had to buy the video so you can see it sometime.
on the way out of queenstown we stopped at the kawarau bridge, the home of bungy but again i wussed out, something im very very annoyed at myself about! definately gonna have to do a skydive now up at taupo and mebbe the auckland harbour bridge bungy to make up for it!!
due to the crappy weather we have been having we have driven alot recently as its too wet to do anything and the mist is spoiling photos.
next was another drive out to our current location of franz josef, via a camp at wanaka, where we are gonna go glacier hiking! should be sweet. then onto more of the northern areas of the south island.
will write that up in a few days when we get to the internet again.
