Today was our day to really start to grasp the splendor of Rome. Up till this point, we'd really only seen the neighborhood of our hotel (not that great), and the Vatican. We spent the day immersing ourselves in the past today, with a visit to Pompeii. It was a short, but very hot train ride from Sorrento, but we arrived just outside the excavation site by about 10am. Matt and I had both been on the fence about whether we wanted to visit Pompeii or if we wanted to take in more of the Amalfi Coast or Capri, but we are both really glad that we decided to see it. Boy were we happy to get out of Naples! We both felt like we should earn 'I survived Naples' t-shirts after successfully living through one day and night in such a polluted, thief ridden, chaotic city. We decided to take a ferry from Naples harbour to Sorrento, so got the 'pleasure' of another Naples cab ride in order to get to the harbour.
