We've definitely had a big dose of mining towns now! Even down to comparing the size of the 'cruiser' with the 'big boys' in town! Lots of big trucks, long trains, 4 wheel drives, ships, tug boats, iron ore and salt piles abound in this area, as well as the mark of the Pilbara - RED DIRT! Some tell us that it will be with us forever!
It's been interesting to see the ports of Dampier, Karratha, Point Samson and Port Hedland, where the majority of the mining export is done. At Port Hedland we watched the tugboats towing a huge ship out of the harbour, so full of iron ore that its hull was well down in the water.
Able to fill up our fuel supplies at $1.34/litre at Port Hedland!
Inbetween the towns, we've stayed in a couple of picturesque rest areas next to a river with cattle roaming through the camp. For the first time this year we were able to have a campfire and cooked our dinner on it - at least it makes you feel like you're camping!

Richard Downing Better come down to Victoria then as it's only 3 degrees this morning in Melboourne so you can have a camp fire all day every day heh heh
