Well i will have these stupid ideas about coming to these 3rd world countrys with s***e roads! After a shocking 12 hours we finally arrived here in Siam Reap (cambodia for you thick people!) 6 of those sweaty hours though were like travelling through Kenya again, it took us 6 hrs to travel about 150k and i dont know what was worse, the heat, the banging of the windows going over the bumps (it wa like aneumatic drill going off in my ear) or the arse ache, but all in all it was s***. Especially on the oldest minibus in cambodia n with about 50 of us squashed in it.
After a good nights kip though we decided to have a little walk around Siem Reap but with it being the New Year for them hardly anything was open so bit of a boring day. Later on though we got a tuk tuk to go visit the Ankor Wat Temple (its the biggest in the world...... er i think!) Was massive anyway and we climbed really high up it to watch the sunset which was nice. The following day we back into Ankor Wat to see some more temples but after a few hours i was ready for coming back. Although they are totally amazing once you've seen one you've seen them all. Although saying that Tomb raider n Indiana Jones was filmed in some of them.
Were now in Phnom penh, travelled down yesterday (another 6 hrs on a bus) But really glad we came. Here's home to all the Killing fields where less than 30 years ago The Khelmer Rough army slaughtered 2 million Cambodians including women n children (Was the Pol Pot regime if you know of it) and yes mum, i have read up on it!! It really has shocked me what ive seen today though. We went to the killing fields and theres a monument off all the skulls (on most of them you can see the marks where they've been bashed or knifed) and as you walk through the mass graves, theres still the clothes and the bones of the poor cambodians there. What makes it even more shocking is how they killed them. The babies were held by their legs and throw repeatedly against a tree or thrown up into the air n down onto a knife. They wouldnt shoot them cos they didnt want to waste any bullets. After the killing fields we went to an old school which was later turned into a prison to torture the cambodians. This was even more horrible. You could walk into the cells and see all the torture equiptment that they used. The beds were still there with the chains n stuff on them. The bit which i found most disturbing was all the photos of the people that were slaughtered, especially the little kids, they made them all have there pic's taken before they killed them n you can see the fear on their faces, it was so awful. To make it worse though they showed actual pics of them being slaughtered. Cant believe this was only 30 years ago!
On a lighter note..... me n Katy are travelling down to Sianoukville for some more tan topping on the beach there. Apparently its meant to be like what Thailand was like 10 years ago so it should be nice. After a few days there think were catching the boat (cant handle them roads again!) back upto Thailand. So far though i really like Cambodia, it reminds me alot of Africa with the little huts n cows in the street etc! And the locals are so friendly and always smiling.
Right thats all from Willy Fog so far but will give you another update soon!
Over n out!
ps, still cant get over them ALIVE pigs on the back of a moped!!! HA XXXXXXX
