Just thought I'd add a new entry into this blog for posterity. Sally and I arrived two days ago via Kuala Lumpur (we were only there a few hours) tired and hot. We got to reception fairly early and found that our room wouldn't be ready until 2 so we would need to kill around 3 and a half hours before we could get into it. The place we are staying for the duration of the trip is called Mai Samui Resort and Spa and it is unfortunately in the middle of nowhere. We knew this going in but didn't realise how nowhere it was. To be fair we are only probably 15 mins from 2 towns (Na Thon and Bo Phut) and about 30 mins away from the main centre Chaweng. So we killed out time by using the free wifi and sleeping in the library and we were there so long I thought one guy complained to management about us! We had lunch and then were finally able to to settle in to our room. We had a bit of a nap and then went down to the pool to discover that one of the pool bars has a 5 hour happy hour! So after a few cheap cocktails and a swim we went back to the room and napped some more. We went to a beach BBQ for dinner that night and had some great food (in fact all the food we have had on the island has been terrific) with fish, prawns, steak and lobster on the menu. The next day after a brilliant sleep and a wonderful breakfast we swam around the pool for an hour or do and read our books before catching a free shuttle bus to Chaweng to do some shopping. We both had a lot of fun despite forgetting to barter the first time and we had a good cheap lunch and some gelato. We also did some research on some spa treatments and more clothing and accessories that we will be heading back out for. We went to the hotel down the road for dinner last night and the food and atmosphere of the restaurant was fantastic. It was also good that the food was cheaper!! Our hotel looks nicer though... We were planning in going to Chaweng today but instead we have spent the day reading, swimming, drinking, eating and sunning our pale, pale bodies. I also went into the ocean here for the first time and it was so warm it was like a hot bath almost. Anyway, that's all so far, I might put another one in later as we are planning in going on an island tour and scuba diving later in the trip.
