We docked in Rotterdam after a very calm sailing. On our way into port we were fascinated to watch the cranes lifting and filling containers and barges. We set off on our travels to Bremen via a ferry we had taken 2 years ago when travelling with Lou, Colin and Chris, which was most unexpected! The man taking the money took pity on me and folded my change and placed it carefully into my very small purse!
We travelled through Holland and arrived in Germany in brilliant sunshine. Colin did an illegal manoeuvre across the wrong carriageway and over tram tracks to enter the hotel car park without having to go through the barrier!
Bremen was left with only a handful of historic buildings after the war which we duly visited. The most interesting was the Schoon District which still had examples of 14th century houses and alleyways filled with curiosity shops - I think Colin was glad we are on motorbike and have no room for souvenirs! Colin decided that he knew when a place had only a small area of interest whne he began to recognise and smile at the other tourists!
After the obligatory stop for a beer (mine was enormous) we walked down to the quayside which was a hive of activity, we decided that most of Europe has had the same summer weather as the UK as everyone was pasty white turning lobster red and out partying on a sunny Monday night.
We had a meal then wended our way back to the hotel for an early night as we were both exhausted-party poopers or what? We will try harder to stay out for the night life as we move through the holiday.
