What a fantastic and easy transition from Scandanavia to Estonia. The ferry and the crossing were just perfect. The tannoy announced when it was 8.30 and told us that we'd be docking at 10, which we duly did. Then it was straight off the ferry- no passport control checks and then a few 100 metres to our hotel where we booked in straight away; so we could unload our bags and change before going into the old town.
We spent the day sightseeing and partaking of the occasional local brew-well it is the done thing when on holiday we've been told! the first thing we did was have breakfast naturally! We found a quaint looking cafe and tried our luck, not sure what to expect. Colin went for the traditional option of the full English! The cafe soon filled up with American tourists. when we went into the cafe the town was quite deserted but when we came out it was bustling. Tallin is certainly one of those places that a day is more than enough to see and do everything. The buildings are well preserved and quaint and the town squares are full of vitality especially when the coach loads arrive!
We went and visited the museum of photography, the Dominican monastery amongst many others. The photography museum was in the old town prison which still retained the restraining irons, window bars and barred gates as a throwback to it's past. We also walked along the very short stretch of walls which had been restored and made safe.
The weather was cloudy and as we returned to our hotel and showered the rain came bucketing down- we're hoping that the weather forecasters are more accurate here and it will pass over by tomorrow lunch. Our friends Phil and Sandy have flown out to Riga where we will join them tomorrow and apparently they have had thunderstorms and torrential rain all afternoon which is such a shame for them; so we are all hoping that it passes over as forecasted. We have been so lucky with the weather that we can't complain at whatever we get.
Due to the inclement weather we decided to eat in the hotel restaurant which was very nice and we were able to speak to Marie and Benjamin which was an added bonus.
