09/04/09: We arrived about 12 and walked to the hostel because we didnt realise there was a free shuttle. We checked in. Then went to explore- we went to the local mall but couldnt find a good foodcourt so walked miles along the beach to another mall and found something to eat. Then walked back along beach- the weather cleared up and it got really sunny! We sat on the beach for a while- not as many surfers as I expected in Surfers Paradise. Then we stopped at supermarket for some supplies before coming back to hostel- which is well equipped and quite clean and not too noisy. I made jacket potatoes for our tea. We are stuck here until Tuesday cos the next place Byron Bay is full cos it is Easter weekend which is a shame cos theres not much here left to do- hopefully the weather will stay nice and we can spend time on the beach. We sat and had a drink in the bar and then went to the room and read for a while before we crashed cos we was knackered after last night!

10/04/09: Happy Easter Everyone!!! A nice, quiet nights sleep and a lie-in!! Got up and made breakfast and got ready then headed out- we walked to the tallest residential building in the world- just one of the skyscrapers here- that is also the 20th tallest building in the world and taller than the Eiffel Tower. We paid $19 to go up to the observation deck on level 77- the lift was magic and took you up there so fast- your ears popped and it was a bit like the Tower of Terror!! We walked all around the level- you can see over the town and to Brisbane and Byron Bay! Then we come back to hostel and got beach stuff- we went and laid on the beach and read and watched the learner surfers- hahaha!! The weather was patchy cloud! Then we come back to hostel and got ready and headed to the main strip where there was a crafts market and we had an indian for tea- only $10 for a curry, nan, rice and drink each!! Then we went to the beach where they had a huge cinema screen on the sand and a big area cut off for people to sit and watch Mamma Mia- like a big open air cinema with the sea lapping on one side and the full moon above us and the buzzing town on the other side- it was cool! There was lots of street entertainers which were good and the streets were packed with holiday makers!! Then we come back to hostel bar for a drink!

11/04/09: We got up about 9 and it was a gloriously sunny day!! We headed for the shops cos we figured that being Easter weekend today was the day when they were all most likely to be open. We mooched around but didnt buy anything except stuff for tea. Then we come back to hostel and got beach stuff- just as it clouded up. We went to the beach anyway and had not long since got settled when it started to piss it down!! So it was a quick dash back to find some shelter. Then we walked around more shops and chilled. We made tea- scrambled eggs, spaghetti, fried veg and toast! We had showers! Luke- we watched ya YouTube- we love it- it looks well fun!!! We got ready and went to the hostel bar where we signed up for the Club Crawl- it was $30 (15quid) and you got a free drink in the hostel and then free entry and a free drink in 3 clubs! We had quite a few drinks in the hostel bar and got chatting to a few 'interesting' people. We all got given straw hats and a glow stick on a necklace and then left the hostel about 10.15- we got a coach to the centre of town- it was like a party bus with loud music and everyone singing and dancing!! We went around the clubs- they were quite good apart from getting hit in the eye and someone standing on my foot!! Lil lex was hammered and really didnt wanna go to the last club but I had to get the free drink in! We left there about 2 and I managed to get us back to hostel!!

12/04/09: We felt really rough when we woke up! I made us both breakfast and we got ready and went to beach where we just chilled. Then we went and got chips for lunch and I had an ice cream- lil alex loves it cos there are these girls here that walk around in gold bikinis and get paid to have their picture with guys- I told him to put his tongue back in!! Then we went and chilled on the beach again and by about 4.30 it was finally blue skies!! We come back to hostel and had showers and then went to town where they had the market again. Then we got some pizza. Having a quiet night in hostel tonight! Read for a while and then went sleep about 9.30.

13/04/09: What a day- we have been rained in!! We got up and had toast for breakfast and got ready. Then we went to the town centre- the weather was very dull and drizzly- and went to the supermarket to get tea. We bought the shopping back and then headed out again and got Subway for lunch in between showers. It started drizzling again so we headed back and spent the afternoon in the room- lil alex got a couple of new magazines and I read more of my book. I cooked tea (it has been one of those days when you eat lots just for something to do)- lil alex was just goin to have pot noodle- but then like usual I cooked far too much so he ate half of mine. We was goin to go out for a drink tonight but it is still raining so we just packed up our stuff ready for leaving early tomorrow and had showers. We had a drink in the bar here. Looking forward to moving on to Byron Bay tomorrow- fingers crossed the weather improves!!
