27/3/09: We arrived at about 7 and saw that we had passed the hostel we were booked into miles back. So we had to phone a taxi to take us back to the hostel. Rockhampton is a really big town but it is not very touristy at all- its a university town and reminds us of an American town. Our hostel is part of a steak house and pub. We checked in- we were the only ones in our room which was cool but the place is a bit of a dump- it could do with new carpets and a lick of paint, etc. Plus there is one computer and the internet is soooo slow! We had a drink in the bar and then went to bed.

28/03/09: We got up at about 8.30 and got ready and then walked up to a big shopping mall. We had breakfast in the food court and then done some shopping- I got some new Nike trainers as they dont do K-Swiss (Vic: your K-Swiss have served me well but after walking the Tongario Crossing and all aorund NZ and part of Oz they are now falling apart- lil alex laughs that I am the only person who wears trainers all the time but anything else blisters my feet). Then I got a new long white top with a heart on to wear with my leggings and a red strappy top to go under it! We stopped at supermarket and got some tea. Then dumped everything in hostel before walking in other direction to the main bit of town. Lil alex got excited at a little car show thing we passed. We got into town and asked at tourist info about an internet cafe and they gave us a list of a couple of places with the internet but the main ones were closed!? Then a friendly old man stopped to ask if he could help when we were looking at map and he said about the library and showed us where it was- so thats where we are now. Unfortunately lil alex cant upload his pics here so we'll have to wait til we move on somewhere a bit more touristy! On the way back lil alex stopped and got a Red Rooster takeaway and then I went to a pie shop and brought a cheese, onion and tomato pastie- it looked delicious cos they put mushy peas in it! But I looked at it and had a suspicion it had meat in so I got lil alex to try it and it did!! I was gutted- who puts meat in a cheese, onion and tomato pastie????? So lil alex ate that as well! It was only about 1pm and we had explored all the main places. We picked up our books and went to a big park which we walked around- we saw a wedding going on with bagpipers (it was well cool). Then we sat and read in the sun for a while. Lil alex thought he had got bitten by something cos his arm started tingling and he had a bite mark and he got tired- but he is ok today!! We come back to hostel and I had drink in bar and read my book and got packed. Then went bed quite early.
